Bridal Shower - NEED HELP

My destination wedding is planned for March 2011 in Key West and my bachelorette party is planned for August 2010. I wanted to have a Bridal Shower in a warm month so it could be like a cookout with family and friends. I live in MI so the weather is unpredictable. I was thinking of having the Bridal Shower June 2010 because I could have it outside in the backyard, but it's 8 months before the wedding. Is that too early? Should I register for gifts for the Bridal Shower? If so, do I register again for the reception that will take place August 2011 for the family and friends who couldn't join us at the wedding.

That seems very early in relation to your wedding date. Have you considered having an at home reception after the wedding? That would make more sense, since you shouldn't invite people to the shower who aren't also invited to the destination wedding. You could invite anyone to the celebration after the wedding, though.

You only need one registry. Guests use that for shower and wedding gifts.

Talk about this with the host.  They get a say in deciding when the shower will be.  If no one has offered to throw a shower yet you need to wait until someone does.

June 2010 for a March 2011 seems too early to me.

I agree with PP, that sounds too early for a shower.  It also sounds really early for a bachelorette party, imo. 

Did I read it right when you said your at-home reception is 5 months after your wedding?  That also seems to be a rather long gap.

I agree too, that seems awfully early to be having the shower. Most showers are thrown 1-3 months before the wedding.
