Bridal shower Jan 8 - when to send invites?

My bridal shower is January 8th.  Since it's so close to the holidays, I've been thinking that the invitations should probably go out by then end of this month so that they don't get lost in holiday mail.

Thoughts?

P.S. - I know I'm not supposed to be involved and should let my hosts handle it, but I'm a bit of a control freak and am starting to get nervous since the wedding is fast approaching (Feb 19).  So please be nice :)

I would maybe do it first thing after Thanksgiving.  That seems most likely to be a more down time in the mail, so that way it doesn't get mixed with Xmas cards.  That's early, but probably not too early IMO.

Bridal shower invites usually go out anytime between 4-6 weeks in advance of the shower. So if you wanted them to go out a little earlier than usual around Thanksgiving would be a good idea.

I disagree with waiting till after Christmas.  Prior to my current job if I got an invite to an event with only 2 weeks notice I probably couldn't make it, even on a weekend and even if it was in the town I lived in.  And I would probably mutter about the rudeness of a last minute invite.

Ditto mysticl, 2 weeks is no where near enough time for advance notice to the guests. My shower invites went out 4 weeks before the shower and there were still several people who couldn't make it and it wasn't even around a holiday. People's lives are busy and the polite thing to do is give them ample advance notice. I think end of November-early December would be a good time to get them out. If you wait until right before Christmas the holiday mail will be building up big time.

thanks everyone!  I agree with all of you...except retread...I wouldn't even do two weeks if it wasn't around the holiday!!!
