Opening Gifts at the Shower?

I am having a small shower hosted at my mothers house. There will be about 10-18 close friends and family there. Do I have to open the gifts at the shower? It this fun for guests to sit through or a total bore?

It's kinda the point. People want to see you ooh and ahh over everything.

Yup.  It's  a really nice way for the people at the shower to see how appreciative you are of the gifts.  And it's actually not that boring for the guests.  I went to a bridal shower once and I loved seeing the bride opening her gifts.  :)

Yeah, that's the whole point of a shower - "showering the bride with gifts".  You need to open each one, ooh and ahh over, make eye contact with the person who gave it to you, thank them and say how much you love it, and then move on to the next.

Of course you need to open the gifts.   I admit that if I took the time to shop for a gift, buy a gift, wrap the gift, and attend the shower, I'd be pretty unhappy to have my gift shoved under a table and not opened.

Yeah - you need to.  And since it's fairly intimate, that's even more of a reason that they'll love that portion.

sorry but yes you have to open them in front of everyone...its awkward yes but that is the point.  just have fun with it, mine was goofy, we were taking pictures of us pretending to cook.  its not as bad as you think.  with that small of a group by the time it gets old watching you open presents you will be done.  i once went a shower with 80 women, now that was boring.  i mean how many dish towels can you get excited about!
