Seeking super inexpensive hotels for long-staying wedding guests

I have set up hotel blocks for my wedding weekend, but some of my guests want to come into Texas early and sight-see beforehand, and they're looking for a really good deal on hotels.

One of my bridesmaids, in particular, says she's found a bunch of hotels for $45-$55 a night on Travelocity. I've new to Texas myself, so I barely know my own neighborhood, let alone which of those hotels might be in a not-so-safe neighborhood.

Is there any advice/recommendations I can give her? Any areas to stay away from? Even better, if you've found a super-inexpensive hotel or a particular chain that's better than the rest, please let me know.

My wedding will be in Fort Worth, but I imagine my guests are more interested in sight-seeing in Dallas beforehand.

Hotel rates vary so much week to week depending on demand, it is hard to suggest.  If you want to post a few that you are looking at, or locations, we could tell you whether it is a safe neighborhood or not.

nice hotels downtown can be found for 55 a night- on priceline where you can name your own price- but I dunno if you could get a block for that rate. I would contact some of the hotels in the downtown area and get pricing- it doesnt hurt to ask around

Thanks for the replies. I realized after I posted that it's kind of hard to suggest a hotel in these huge cities. I'll probably wind up suggesting she stay close to DFW airport or to downtown FW, since I know those areas better than any other...if she wants to be adventurous and try somewhere else, then at least I won't feel like I didn't try to help!

I hadn't thought of Priceline, even though I know my FI used it to get us a great hotel when we visited DC. Thanks!

Have you tried one of the suite hotels that are available by the week or month?  A friend of mine stayed at Summerfield in The Colony for about $250 a week and had a nice kitchenette, fridge, etc.  You might get  better results searching for short term stay hotels than day by day
