Marriage Legality question

IDK if I should post this question here or on the DW board, but I'm hoping that y'all could help me out.

FI and I are getting married in Mexico in August and I was wondering if we need to have a JOP wedding here to make it legal in the states before we go to Mexico or will it (marriage) still be legal when we come back from Mexico.

TIA!!!

You don't have to have a JOP wedding here first, but it will make things much easier. To have a legal ceremony in Mexico, you first must go to the Mexican consulate in Houston and have all of your legal documents translated into Spanish (birth certificates and divorce decrees). Then, once you are in Mexico you have to go to a doctor and get Xrays and blood tests.

These laws may have changed. This is what I found when I was doing research almost 2 years ago. Just google legal weddings in Mexico.

My mom and step dad got "Married" in Cancun..but came back here and went to the JOP to make it legal..

    Hope that helps!

I'm getting married in MX in Oct.  I always figured we would make it legal here 1st before we left bc I do not want to hassle w/MX's requirements.  BUt according to my FI, this is a much simpler alternative and will work/be legal (he's done it before)--
We are getting the marriage license here before we leave, we are taking a friend who is an ordained minister with us to perform the symbolic ceremony at our resort, signing the marriage license and filing it back here in Dallas when we return.
