Hair & Make-up

Can anyone give me suggestions for great hair and make-up artists for engagement/bridal pictures and wedding day?? I'm looking for someone fairly priced that has experience in portrait and wedding day make-up.

Thanks!!

I'm using Chrisite Lee. I'll be doing my trial/bridals in August and will post pics. She has great reviews on weddingwire.com though.

I love my makeup artist, Amanda with AH Makeup Artistry (www.ahmakeupartistry.com)

Her prices are reasonable, she has a low minimum for travel, and she is so sweet!

I actually found Jenny Torry on craigslist and she is amazingly cheap compared to a lot of the other places I'd found.  I think she just raised her prices but she did $110 for the bridal package (trial and day of makeup) and the travel fee was practically nothng.  She also does hair but I haven't had experience with her on that yet.  She came for my trial about 2 weeks ago for my engagement pics and she was so sweet and the look turned out great for the photos.  Her website is jtorryart.com if you'd like to see some of her before and after shots.  Best of luck.

To the ladies who are using Amanda from AH makeup.... i was about to sign my contract this past weekend and send in my deposit when i actually read the contract. The first little tid-bit read :

    1) Makeup Artist's obligation to provide services hereunder is subject to the unavailability of the Artist as a result of sickness, accidents, acts of God and other reasons beyond the Artist's control.

But it did not say anything about reimbursement or any idea of what would happen at that point. i emailed her to double check but shes out of town for a week so i won't hear back for a while. So i was wondering if anyone else noticed this and if they said anything or how they went about it??? I really love her work and doubt anything would happen but I feel as though there should be something written in the contract that I would get my money back???

    Am i freaking out ?

rhsdiplomanic25  - No, you're not crazy. I've learned that if you have ANY questions, no matter how small, you need to have the answer added to your contract before you sign. While I'm sure she'll make this addition, you are very smart to wait. Good for you for reading the fine print!

It's always a good idea to speak to EVERY vendor about what happens if they become unavailable.  It's a worst-case scenario of course, but certainly worth discussing.  Hopefully she has an assistant or backup or someone she works with that could provide the services in her absence.

rhsdiplomatic - Ditto to what stephiehalll and MsLaura31 have said.  In some of my contracts with wedding vendors, I have had to do an addendum and/or supplemental contract to address some of the issues/concerns I had.   For example, the Cotton Mill's standard venue contract will not let you know serve liquor and/or alcohol in glass bottles.  Since I wanted to have a champagne toast and serve liquor as well, we did a supplemental contract in which I agreed to use TABC-certified bartenders to serve the liquor and champagne.   So, please do not be afraid to ask and explain what you want, AND please get every promise in writing.
