Honeymoon in Hurricane Season?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.  Is anyone honeymooning in hurricane season? I know I should have this booked by now, but I don't even know if a honeymoon is financially feasible.  If we are able to go on a honeymoon, I'm curious if we should just wait until next summer to take a trip or just chance it and go in September.  I really just want to lounge on a beach and not get swept away by a hurricane.  Any thoughts?

We are getting married October 2 and going on our cruise honeymoon a week later (October 10). We are not worried about the storms. We bought travel insurance and the cruise lines and most resorts know what to do in case of a storm. We're going and having a good time, hurricanes be damned!

We wanted to go to the Carribean but the stars aligned and we're going to Hawaii instead...  I was hesitant to commit to a Carribean vacation as well.  :(

I always go to the carribean ( jamaica, caymen island's) in hurrican season because prices are amazing I have been 7 years in a row and only one ( last year) had a problem with it - we were on a cruise and had to outrun a storm- we just switched which ports we went to and everything was okay

I'm not sure when hurricane season officially starts, but we're going to St. Lucia  8-16. Just get the insurance, you should be fine.

We thought about postponing our honeymoon too, for financial reasons. But then we realized, well, there will always be "something". Some reason we can't afford it, and it will always be put on the backburner and before we know it we'll have a kid or two and never got to take our honeymoon. So, I say take your chances and go for it now.

Worst case scenerio, you have a funny story to tell people about a hurricane hitting on your honeymoon!

Or you could do something like PP said and go to Hawaii...

I will also add that I am all about sunshine and warm weather so I would be bummed even if it rained a lot when I was on my honeymoon so I am not just concerned about natural distasters but also generally bad weather and rain.

I go to Miami ever couple of years in July and one year I went later in August and it rained a few of days I was there and I wasn't a big fan of that.

Kathy, you do realize that it rains EVERY DAY in Hawaii don't you? It'll rain for maybe an hour and then clear up, but it does come everyday. My FBIL and his family were stationed there for 4 years and they said you could almost set your watches to the rain. So, if you're hoping to stay away from the rain, you might still be disappointed in Hawaii.

I've been in this situation and will never do it again. And hurricanse season is supposed to be worse this year due to La Nina already in the Carribean. It isn't worth it to me to risk it. Check out Hawaii or the West side of Mexico, i.e. Cabo

Thanks for the help yall!  Cabo is where I really want to go so I'm going to try and make that happen!

    Hey Renee,
This will be my 4th trip to Hawaii and so far, I haven't experienced rain there, but that's good information to know that when it does rain, it rains in small doses and not all day long. :)

BTW, I sent you a PM.

We went with Puerto Vallarta for that very reason...I didn't want to risk it, I would be way upset if it even rained the whole time, let alone a hurricane.

We plan to do St. Lucia in the spring, and wanted an all inclusive - why we didnt do Hawaii.

I would say book a cruise and get insurance. A cruise will not send you into harm's way. A friend of mine got married and went to an all inclusive resort for their honeymoon and she got majorly stranded from a hurricane. It was a nightmare for her. For some reason, I would feel better about a cruise. I have been on three cruises during hurricane season, and only had hurricane issues once. In that instance, we were being followed and chasing two separate hurricanes. The captain kept us out of harm's way and it wasn't scary at all.  We cruise during the hurricane season because it's so much cheaper. I know many people who have it in their budget to cruise during peak seasons just for the peace of mind of not having to worry about bad weather. I don't have that luxury, so I just chance it! :)
Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

I've always heard that hurricane season is June 10-November 10. My wedding is June 21 and our honeymoon is on a Caribbean Cruise. Im really not that worried.  Like AmberMarie said, a cruise isnt going to let you get in a hurricane.

Lacy, since Cabo is on the Pacific side of Mexico you should be fine.  They have very few hurricanes on that side.  It's as likely that a hurricane would hit there as a hurricane hitting San Diego.  Just not probable.  If you think you can financially swing a honeymoon then you should not worry about when to book it.
