No Registry?

I'm 34 and have everything I need already. Is it tacky not to register anywhere implying I prefer cash gifts?

Re: No Registry?

  • We were going to not register because we dont really need anything either but found that it was just easier to go and do it for those that arent going to want to give money.  I felt weird registering anyway, but we did it since many people requested that we did.
  • It's fine to do this.  If you do opt to do this, you should decline showers as 'greenback' showers are considered to be in poor taste and you'd wind up with 'stuff'.Also see how your family members feel about giving cash if you can ask people like your parents.  Our crowd gives cash as a wedding gift however some groups feel strongly about NOT giving money.
  • I was thinking the same thing as FI and I are 33 and 30 respectively and we have alot of household items already - we're not just starting out...but I decided to stick to a smaller registry of mainly upgrades (you know, the knife set we never owned, some dishware, some new bedding) in case people prefer not to give cash but would still like to give a gift - at least they have some ideas this way.

  • Great idea and info, thanks!
  • Also just so you know, some guests, particularly the old and old fashioned kind prefer to bring a wrapped present to the wedding. And some cultures do not know about the cash for the wedding gift option (my hubby's Canadian family gave us the most expensive gifts but not one gave us cash; on the other hand, my family all gave us cash). It's just what people are used to.
