Wedding China - Too Non-Traditional?

I have fallen in love with a beautiful collection of wedding dishes - Jessica Rust Design's Love Birds, which would have our names and our wedding date. Sadly, I seem to be getting less than enthusiatic responses from my fam. and wedding party (i.e. oh... it's nice, but maybe you should not personalize them). Are these dishes more of a one off gift than a china set? Please be honest and candid!

Re: Wedding China - Too Non-Traditional?

  • Well, if you want candid... The design is fine, but I don't care for the personalization. I think it's cheesy. It's too reminiscent of a wedding favor, something you made yourself in a pottery store or something from Things Remembered.   Also, you won't really be able to pass your china down to one of your children or grandchildren. Can you get the back of the plates engraved instead? That idea I actually don't mind.
  • ditto pp, I love the design, but don't care for the personalization.
  • Personalizing them with your wedding date makes them and odd choice to use at random easters and thanksgivings in say 27 years
  • Ditto, the pattern itself is nice (not my style, but nice) but I think that personalization isn't the way to go.  It can still be your "wedding" china without having a date stamped on it.
  • I think the china is beautiful but I also agree about not getting them all personalized.  Maybe you can get a really beautiful platter that goes with the set that you can get engraved?  That way you still have your personalization, but it's just one piece not every plate that people eat off of.
