Cake Server Set

I have found a cake server set that I really like but I wanted to ask a question before looking into purchasing it! Do most people buy their own server set and have it personalized? Do people tend to buy that for the bride and groom as a gift? I ask because I would hate to buy a personalized set and then have someone get us one thats personalized as well if that is a popular wedding gift idea? Same thing with toasting flutes?? Have alot of you gotten them as a gift or did you buy them youself?

Re: Cake Server Set

  • I put a simple set that matched our silverware on our registry, and my sister got them for us for Christmas. In my area, it is common for family to buy your cake servers and your toasting flutes as shower gifts.
  • I almost bought my own but luckily I was with my MOH when I was tempted and she made me stop.  She had already bought them for me along with my mom and sister.  They had them personalized.

  • I got the cake server set as an engagement gift from DH's aunt.We bought our own toasting flutes. Both were Lenox.  I have not used either since the wedding.

  • Yeah, we registered for a pretty set, and if we don't get them, we'll just use what the venue provides.OR--I think my mom still has her cake server set from her wedding; she mentioned that I could use it if I didn't get one and if she can find it.  I think it would be neat to use my parents!  That's an idea too.
  • I bought inexpensive serving set (like $15) that I would be willing to use again around birthdays and such. It's simple with a couple rhinestones at the top of the hilt. I didn't bother with personalization. I did however get my toasting flutes personalized ($35 for the set, with personalization) because those will be great for anniversaries.I bought both myself though I am sure FMIL would have loved to buy me a set of either. I am not sure if she would have chosen something we liked.
