Using Gifts Before The Wedding...

I wasn't planning on using gifts before the wedding BUT what about essentials? Our dinnerware and griddle were both Christmas gifts, and FI bought me some drinking glasses for Valentines Day (doesn't sound romantic, but I loved it).. but what about flatware? Once we receive it (which I know it has already been purchased) can we use it before the wedding or should I borrow from my parents/use plastic ware (and wash it, of course) or what? (Am I reading too much into this superstition?)

When I was in college I lived in the dorms, so things were provided... when I was in the Army, everything was provided... and when FI and I volunteered/lived in San Antonio for 4 months, everything was provided. So in September/October/or even November we'll be moving into our first place and not have anything of our own. Of course, I won't use all the fun kitchen appliances and whatnot (even though I'll want to so bad) but what about essentials?

*Also, our officiant and his wife are flying in from TX and will be staying at our apartment the night before the wedding, and the wedding night (since both nights we will not be there) so should I have things out and ready for them to use even if we haven't used them yet?

TIA Ladies - Happy Friday! xo
