house too small for more things! help!

My sister is planning a couples shower for us in August... our wedding date is set for 3/17/12. Currently, we are living in my "bachelorette house" that I own... it is a1 bedroom/1bath home... we are saving to buy a new home with in the next few years... right now, we don't need anything, nor have room for anything! What do we register for? We also don't want to be rude or offend anyone by just asking for CASH! Ideas?

Re: house too small for more things! help!

  • I completely understand!  We're living in a 1 bed / 1 bath apartment right now right outside of a city... so it's pretty cramped and we're short on storage space already.  Fortunately his parents have agreed to keep things for us for some time.  (If you can do this, it's a great option for fine china and whatnot.  Just make sure everything is clearly marked as yours so you can find it later!)

Also, because we just moved in together, we still have things from college even though we're now 4 years removed so we're looking at replacing mismatched place sets or even just towels or kitchen utensils that are looking worn.  (I'll just need to convince him to donate the old ones... he has such a hard time parting with things even though we don't have the room or need to keep them!!)  Also, just having some things that are "ours" rather than mine or his is nice.

Rather than decline the shower, perhaps encourage her to keep it small in numbers.  You could also add to a "honeymoon" website like honeyfund.com for people to help contribute toward your new home and/or honeymoon.
