What do you do when you receive a gift from another couple's registry?

My husband's friend and his wife gave us a wedding gift - 3 months after our wedding. My husband was unpleasantly surprised when he opened the gift in front of the couple to find a gift he didnt like. His friend told him it was on our registry. I did a little detective work and figured out that its a gift from my husband's sister's gift registry.

Should we tell the couple that they gave us the wrong gift?

    I would just exchange it and not mention it to them.  And like PP's said I really hope your H really didn't show how "Unpleasantly surprised" he was in front of people who just gave him a gift

    Why would you want to embarrass them?? Simply exchange the gift for something you do want.
