Clueless about registering... any advice?

We are registering currently at Bed Bath and Beyond. Not sure yet about what other store. Personally I'm a big Macy's shopper so maybe there too.

But the thing is I am so damn shy to register!! I feel bad picking stuff, even though deep down it is fun! And we certainly need the things we're registering for because we both live at home still!

Thing is I'm afraid to register for expensive and necessary stuff, like plates and silverware. It just adds up to so much when you change the quantity number. It was a lot to begin with!

I just want to know, what did you do? How did you do it? Just looking for any tips to make this efficient and pick things that will last us many years. Those things seem expensive though >_- The girl at BBB said to me to don't worry about it, she didn't and to just have fun. Is that the right mentality? :-p

  • Honestly, I'm shy about it too! I keep feeling that it's rude and gift grabby and whatnot but everyone I've talked to have continued to say that's the norm for weddings. Especially if you two both live at home, people know that you will register for oodles of stuff since you're just starting out! Don't sweat it... and yes, have funnnnn [:

NO.  the BBB people drive me nuts.  I had to tell the rep that followed us around (annoningly) that I was NOT registering for fine china and placesettings that we don't NEED.  My fiance is from a super small town and a placesetting that costs even $50 would make most of our guests probably throw away the registry.  We just didn't feel comfortable registering for super expensive stuff like that, but we did 'splurge' on what we really wanted, pots, pans and a knife set (all of which our parents bought).  My point is, DO NOT let the rep tell you that you MUST register for certain items.  That is simply not true.  Yes you should have a variety of differently priced items so there's something for everyone so to say, but you should take the time to consider what you really need and what price range a majority of your guests will be shopping in.
  • Agree with PPs.  Hit all the price points and don't worry about high priced items.  I've been iffy about my registry too, but if you were to look at other brides' registries, you'd see that it is not out of the norm to have several high priced items.

    Have fun!

I loved my Macy's and Crate and Barrel registry and recommend going with either of them. Crate and Barrel had a registry event where they opened the store early and gave us mimosas and the scanning gun, very fun!  We did one or two runs in the store at Macy's and C+B and then added or changed items online after that point.

In my opinion Bed Bath and Beyond has kind of an annoying website for online purchases and the items never go on sale.  I liked Macy's because they have most of the brands you want and are always having sales.  I liked Crate and Barrel because there stuff is really stylish and affordable.  I think everyone (even your guests) appreciates a good deal.

Also, don't be shy about registering if it's for items you want and will use!  We focused on practical stuff and got the majority of our items.  For example are you really going to use that crazy expensive china?  Or should you get a more middle of the road/ high quality everyday dishes.  Don't feel bad about high end kitchen appliances or pots and pans because everyone knows these items last.  My recent pet peeve as a wedding guest after just getting married is when people are not registered for enough stuff or have no variety on the registry.  In that case you feel obligated to give cash or make a guess on what they need or would like.
