Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

may make you blush!

What if I start my Ladies days on the wedding day, or even a couple days before or after.

I just thought about that, and how terrible it would be. My skin breaks out SO bad a week before and a week after. Like 20 pimples!

Not to mention I'm wearing white! (or light gold anyways, lol)

What are your solutions, or how can this be... idk... controlled?!

I have a few months.. maybe I can sync up with someone. HAHA

i dont know if you are on birth control or not, but if you are you can skip your period week. When you are supposed to take the sugar pills you can just start a new pill pack instead. This will stop your body from having a period. You can do this with regular birth control or you can get the pills already packaged for this like seasoniqu(spelling?) Just a note, I did this when I was in high school and you might have a little spotting around the second month, but usually that either doesn't happen, or it nothing too much to even worry about! I hope that helps a little!

I am on a birth control pill to help my acne, it is called ocella. It is the generic form of yaz and I love it! also, if you are worried about break outs you should find a good derm. I have been going to mine since I was a freshman in college, I never had acne until I left for college and seriously it was like after I turned 19 my skin revolted against me. She put me on this daily, low dose antibotic called doxycycline and that mixed with a daily skin care routine helped DRASTICALLY! My skin went to looking like I never had any breakouts, and it is amazing because it helps not just your face! If you break out anywhere else it helps with those as well. I am not on it anymore; I was on it for so long (2+ years) that my body got used to it, I am on a different medicine called Solodyn now, it is the first FDA recogonized oral medication for the treatment of acne but the only thing that sucks about it is if you dont have insurance it would be impossible to afford! Although, if you find a good doctor and ask for the discount cards, they can get you at least 3 months of it for only $10 a month!! without insurance it is about $750+

at 5 months, I would reccomend talking to you gyn about it. Seriously. They could help get you on BC that will work your you and your body (ie little/no breakouts) and can get you so you don't have to worry about it

My daughter is also on BC for her acne, which was pretty severe. If you only break out around your period, I'm not sure that it would help--however, it's a good idea to be on it anyway for obvious reasons, and also it would regulate your cycle so that you could control when you have your period around the wedding. Otherwise, you're just going to have to hope for the best. The type of acne you are describing is mostly likely due to hormonal changes so there's not a whole lot you can do, unfortunately.

Be sure to keep up with your regular skincare regimen (and if you don't really have one, now is a good time to start :)).

I started going to a really great dermatologist, Dr Singer in Dallas in 2005 and she has helped me immensely with my breakouts.

I am on Quasense (generic Seasonale birth control) but I was still getting some nasty breakouts around my time of the month. The dermatologist put me on Spiro which helped that immensely, as well as some topical cremes like Differin (preventative) and Benzaclin (high amounts of Benzol Peroxide to decrease the size of current blemishes).

Since finding the right dose and combination for your acne can take some time, I would go to the dr ASAP. When I started using Differin years ago things got worse before they got better. Now I am so happy with my skin and the results.

And to add: the spiro is specifically for breakouts around your time of the month. It dries out the excess oil in your skin which means you have to be careful to drink lots and lots of water throughout the day.

Beth, you're probably aware of this but If you decide to treat acne with birth control, I would just recommend making sure you consider all the risks involved with hormonal BC. Considering it effs up your body's ability to produce its own hormones, and it takes months for your body's hormone levels to get back to normal after going off the pill, for me it seems like a pretty extreme solution for treating acne, but I know there are lots of people who disagree with me. There are also a lot of risks involved with taking packs back to back in order to control your cycle.

I think if you get your period at your wedding it sucks, but it's not going to be the end of the world. Just make sure you pack lots of backup--double up on tampons and pads and you shouldn't have to worry about leaks, etc. Plus, it's a good excuse to buy a cute wedding clutch, if you haven't already! Other than that just follow your normal routine--advil, midol, chamomile tea, whatever, and you should be fine.

As for the wedding night, if it's a concern, I don't know, but I've heard from lots of couples that we are going to be too exhausted to do anything after the wedding anyway, haha. I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm just saying.

As for the acne issue, most primary care physicians can prescribe something. Mine wrote a prescription for a medicated lotion that actually doesn't dry out my skin, although I still have some breakouts. (She also prescribed differin to me which might help more, but it's not covered by my insurance and we couldn't afford it.) Try to use face wash and products made for sensitive skin, if you don't already. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend making too many adjustments to your regimen too close to the wedding in case you have an adverse reaction.

Other than that, just hire a good makeup artist, and you won't have to worry about it too much at all!

Well, this happened to me five days before the wedding but it was over by that day.

There is a great acne moisturizer by Aveeno (under $8 at Target) that I use on my pimples and they clear up usually in a day. I even use it on the ones that don't ever show themselves and it helps.

I agree with N&M. Plus, if you do get your period and it's not too bad of a break out (acne), then your MUA should be able to cover it. Try not to stress too much over it - or your break out might be worse.

I'm no help here - But just wanted to add that I got mine RIGHT after my reception (literally). I think the wedding gods were watching out for me, I was so glad it didn't happen during! Going on the pill helped my acne, but as soon as I tried to get off it it the acne got so much worse than it ever was before. I don't really think its worth it if you ever plan on going off of the pill.

My acne is completely hormonal. I have been on acutane, and 15 (at least) different BC pills since I was 13. As well as every type of antibiotic known to help acne. As well as prescription topical treatments.

My skin is no longer as oily since taking accutane. the BC pills make me gain weight and don't help with break outs the week before my period, so I don't take it anymore. I also physically feel better when I'm not on it. (I'm already very overweight, so gaining weight is a big deal)
and I have found that I am allergic to 3 different types of antibiotics. The 3 that work best for acne. HAHA!

PLUS, my skin is sensitive. so all of the topical treatments tear up my skin :(

I just bought a clairsonic, and started using it daily. I have the delicate and sensitive skin brush heads. so far I like it.

If I start my ladies days the DAY of the wedding, whether its before or after the reception, that will be my worst skin day. that's how I know I'm going to start that day, I get pimples along my jaw line, and normally I dont have any break outs.

I'm going to track the calendar and hope for the best I guess. If i have a 28 day cycle, then I will start a week and a half before the wedding... so that gives me a week and a half to fix my skin.... if I'm on a 28 day cycle... hmmmm... is anybody exactly 28 days?
and I am going to start using my clairsonic twice a day. Hope fully that will help with my overall skin appearance, so a few pimples on the day of wont make my look like a total disaster.

I don't have much to add other than I was just thinking about the same issue. I was going to call the doc today to determine what steps I need to take regarding BC pills and my acne issues. Good luck.

You could always try Windex! It worked for John Corbett in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". :-)

You can also track and predict your cycle by charting your morning temperature before rising and your cervical fluid. Although it's somewhat complicated at first, so it may be more work than it's worth for you, but if you're interested, Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great source of information.

There are several apps you can use on your phone to help you track your cycle. I have a Droid Evo (Sprint) and the one I use is called "My Days." It was the most highly ranked in the droid market, which is why I chose that one. I've been manually tracking my cycle in my planner since last summer, but switched to this app in mid-December. So far I really like it!
