I certainly can't bring my fine china to the French Polynesia...

My fiance and I currently live in Northern Virginia, however we are having our wedding near our families in Upstate New York. We leave the morning after the wedding for our honeymoon, and from there are flying back to VA. So here's the question: How are we supposed to get our gifts to our home?

Most people will have their gifts shipped to your home prior to the wedding, especially since the wedding is out of town for you.

For the few that will bring physical gifts to the wedding, ask a close family member who lives near the wedding to hold them for you while you travel.  Then when you return home, have that person ship the things to your home.

If something is really heavy or large, they can return it to the registry store for store credit, and you can repurchase it yourself at home.  Stores deal with this sort of thing as a part of registries fairly frequently.  If you register at stores that are known for registries, they can help you.
  • Most people will have the gifts sent to your home.  For other things, can your parents hold onto it, and you can pick it up at the next family get-together?  Or will there be a good friend that is also traveling from VA to NY?  If they drive, maybe they would be willing to bring the items back home in their car.

  • We only had 2 people bring gifts to the wedding, everyone else just had them shipped to our home.

Especially since you are travelling for your wedding, I would assume your guests would choose to ship.
