BB&B Registry-- no more cash back for returns?

We had to return a number of gifts from BB&B that were on our registry. I had originally been told, but never got in writing, that you can get cash back for registry gifts, but the clerk said that was only the policy briefly last year and now it was only store credit.

I know I will use the store credit, but I'm a little bummed. Cash would be nicer to have! (I did NOT register for things just to get cash back, we just got duplicates from other stores and the like.)

Anyone else heard of this?

Re: BB&B Registry-- no more cash back for returns?

  • I hadn't really heard one way or the other, but it kind of makes sense.  Usually if you return something you yourself purchased, you get the return in the original form of payment, but they can't refund your friends' credit cards, ya know?  So I agree, it would be nice to have the money, but I'm not surprised they're now giving credit.
  • Yeah, I was more surprised that they ever gave cash, but since that's what I was told I was expecting it. I'm just wondering if the sales guy pulled one over on us.
  • I heard that on the knot, but I thought it was ridiculous.  What store would ever do that?  So if they ever did it, I'm not surprised they changed it.  How would they even do it?  Just hand you cash?  That's crazy.  Just use the store credit to complete your registry.  That's what you guests would probably want you to do anyway (rather than take the cash).
  • I'm surprised that any store would give cash back without a receipt that says the payment was in cash. That's just bad business sense.

  • We returned a few items to BB&B (got duplicated from there which was weird) and they gave me cash.  But I also had a cart and was going back out to buy more stuff that we didn't get off the registry so that might have been why, as opposed to bother with giving me a gift card.

  • My co-worker said this same thing to me to that BBB gave cash back.  She got married like 4 years ago though so I didn't know if they still did this.

Nordstrom gives you cash back for returns still.  I don't think it's necessarily bad business sense.  That would be under the assumption that most people abuse this policy, which I doubt is actually the majority (otherwise they wouldn't have this policy anymore).  I think it actually would turn out to be in their favor in the long run.
  • We got cash back for the two duplicates we returned last year.  I was expecting store credit, but we did have receipts, so maybe that was the difference?

I had heard that they were going to change their policy because so many people were creating full registries and returning everything for cash.
  • We received cash back for all of our registry returns.  It's probably store specific.  I know some stores don't accept the expired coupons, where as others will take them from ten years ago haha!

  • I returned an item last week and got cash back when I thought I'd get store credit...I didn't have a receipt either.
