Difference of Opinons...Help please..(kind of long)

Ok so I was sitting with FI tonight to discuss where we should register. My picks Crate and Barrel, & Kohls...his Home Depot, Lowes, and Best Buy...
So of course I thought you are joking right? So I ask him for his reasoning, and he tells me a pretty solid answer, " we always have a project going on and we could use GC to home depot and Lowes...So I ask why Best Buy? "Because you know it is my fav store and this is my wedding too"

So now here is my question... should I just give in and say go for it and have multiple registries for him and I? or is that wrong? I can deal with HD and Lowes, not so much with Best Buy...I am in a quandry.....

  • I'd say add Home Depot or Lowes to the list with Kohls and C&B.  (Best Buy would not fly with me as a guest).   I think a lot of people would like to think that you'll hold onto their gift forever, not until you sell your house.

  • Yeah, um, I wouldn't be buying anything from Best Buy for someone's wedding gift. I'd do what PP's said - HD, Kohl's and then maybe Lowe's and Crate&Barrell. It's not like you get everything off of your registry anyways, but I think you run the risk of offending guests with the Best Buy thing.

To address that it's "his wedding too" remind him that your gifts should cater to both of you as well.

I'm sure FI would LOVE to register at Summit (car superstore) but sorry. I can't register at Barnes & Noble can I? :)

  • I don't think any of his choices have registries available at all. How about www.myregistry.com? We've got one on there (in addition to Target and Belk) and it lets you add anything from any website to your wishlist.

This.  Certain Home Depot and Lowe's stores have registries but they don't have a national registry.  If you are interested in just adding gift cards to these stores (which is also like asking for cash, FYI) I would do a registry like myregistry.com

  • Yeah...  Best Buy is a No-go for me.  The Home stores are totally OK.

  • Best Buy:  um, no.  Target has electronics, just add them there.
  • I'd avoid Target if at all possible.  They have notoriously bad registry management and poor customer service in dealing with it.

I get this...but in all fairness, it's BOTH of your wedding (not grammatically correct, sorry) and in reality the gifts you register for should be for both of you to use while you're starting your life together, or at least this is how I see it.  When FI and I registered, we didn't put anything on unless we both agreed on it, since we're going to be living with this stuff for a long time.  I can't even tell you how many different sets of dishes we had to look at before agreeing on one, lol!<div>
</div><div>Were there any stores on the list that your FI named that you would feel comfortable with?  Maybe you could just do registries at stores you both agree on.</div>
  • What does he want from Best Buy?  I'm assuming it's something that can be found at Target, but I'm not the most proficient with electronics so I don't know.  I definitely wouldn't register at Best Buy, and I don't even know if they have a gift registry anyway.  Maybe you two could agree to put some of the money you get for your wedding to whatever it is. Also, Lowes/Home Depot is a good thought, but I don't think they have national registries.  Also, I would only choose one or the other, not both.
You could go with an option like myregistry.com.  It's a good idea but I know quite a few of my guests are not the online type of people and would just prefer to know what store it is I'm registered at and go shopping in store.

  • Why don't you do a Universal Wish List on Amazon. Except please don't register for TVs or videogames haha. Anyway, Home Depot or Lowes would never fly with me and I can't imagine ANY woman showing up to my shower with something from there haha. Me and my guy are more "pay someone else to fix it type people" even though we probably shouldn't be... anywho- if you register on Amazon you can include some specific things he wants. But like I said, who shows up to a shower with an axe or a hammer anyway?
  • Definitely let him register at lowes or HD.  as far as BB goes they dont have a registry(at least not at their michigan stores).  we tried to register there but just put those things on our walmart registry.

  • The first one on your combined list that I'd cross off is Kohls.  It's not even a real department store.  It's some kind of discount store, selling merchandise that didn't sell in other stores.

Go with Crate&Barrel, Best Buy, and either Loew's or HD.
