Plus Sized MOH

I am only having 1 girl in my wedding party.  She is a plus sized woman, that has concerns about her arms and her stomach.  I am searching for a dress for her ... anyone know of a store that carries a 24-26w dress that is covering and still flattering?  thanks!

If you only have 1 BM I would give her a color and let her find any dress that she is comfortable in.  She may have better luck just in a regular plus size store.

If she is going to look in wedding stores she may have better luck looking at some of the mothers dresses, since many times they are less revealing and/or have jackets.

Like the PP said, you are probably better off letting her find something she is comfortable in, rather than finding it for her.  Also, I remember DB having a selection of boleros or jackets, if you do decide to go the bridal shop route.

My best suggestion, if you do want to go to a bridal store, is to research the places you are interested in.  Call them and see if they carry dresses in plus size samples.  That way, your BM can get a better idea of what silhouette looks great on her, and she won't be trying to squeeze into a dress 4 sizes too small.  I know from personal experience what a confidence killer that can be.

Those are some of the places I looked...don't know what her budget might be like, some of them are a bit steep.  HTH!!

I don't think you can... I think you need to create a new account. :(

I made my first SN w/o thinking and included some peronal information and then created a whole new account bc I couldn't figure out another way to do it.

    www.kiyonna.com

My two plus-sized BMs ordered from the latter, and looked great.  Since you only have one and she doesn't need to match anyone, I would definitely just give her a few guidelines and turn her loose.  Hell, she might even already own something suitable!  Nothing says you have to buy a new outfit just because it's a wedding.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Their catalog branch has a website called Onestopplus.com.  They have a lot of nice things.  I got my skirt there for my wedding.

Alfred Angelo does great work!  They also charge a flat price.  If shes a 22 she'd be charged as if she was a 12!

I would check out DB or Alfred Angelo.  Reasonable prices and sizes up to like 30 or something.  But as most PP mentioned, since you just have one she can get it pretty much anywhere!

Sometimes Nordstrom has some really nice plus-sized dresses too.

We had a similar situation in finding a BM dress for my daughter, who is close to that size.  As a PP said, Lane Bryant and Alfred Angela are great.  Also, shrugs are popular this year and that may give her the coverage she wants if a sleeveless is chosen.

Be very careful if she chooses to order from DB and she needs alterations and does not have someone to do them.  My DD BM dress was $139 and it was going to need a minimum of $140 in alterations (she dropped out of the wedding and I was so glad of!)  Lane Bryan is more size specific- my daughter can wear an 18/20 off the rack with no alterations.  DB is very pricey when it comes to alterations!!  GL!

PPs suggestions are great.  I would also add that Lane Bryant outlet might be good for finding a nice dress for a wedding, if there is one in your area.  I was able to find a nice dress for an event there off the rack...I think it's easier to find dresses there than at a regular Lane Bryant.

Also, Macy's has a great selection of plus-size dresses.  Their selection is good and they have a lot of dresses that flatter are are of a more updated style, and they have the brand names also (like CK, Michael Kors, etc.).   JcPenney's doesn't have as many of the updated styles, but they do tend to have a number of formal dresses that cover up.

If you go with an actual bridal store, I suggest that you (or she) call first to see if they have sample sizes of BM dresses that she can try on.  It would be really crappy to go to a store just to find out they don't have anything in her size.

I agree, Kiyonna.com is fantastic.  I've got a plus-size BM and she's ordering her dress from them.  I'm thinking of ordering the same dress for myself, just to have, it's that great.

Since your MOH won't need to match anyone, you're probably best off giving her a color and length, and maybe a fabric, and letting her look on her own.  She's going to have a much easier time finding a dress with sleeves that doesn't make her look ridiculous at a regular store than at any bridal shop, and she won't have to deal with months of waiting for her order to come in.  It's the best thing you can do for her.

thanks for all the helpful points!  I found a dress on a site: http://www.inweddingdress.com/mother-of-the-bride-dresses.html
if any of you need it.  If anyone has gotten a dress there - good? bad?
