Rehearsal Dinner guests

The bride's grandfather and step-grandmother are arriving from out of town the day on which we are having the rehearsal dinner (that night, hosted by the groom's parents).  Would we be out of line to ask the groom's parents if they could attend the rehearsal dinner?

I wouldn't think you'd be out of line at all by asking them.  It's not like you want to invite every out of town guest; they are important family members and should be included, IMO.

It would be out of line not to invite the grandparents.  Especially if they're there from out of town.

I don't think it's bad.  Are they part of the processional?  Then they'd be 'required' RD guests.

Banana is right. Grandparents are honored guests who are seated just before the groom's parents and the MOB. They ARE part of the ceremony.
