Groom's sis wants to fit dress 2 weeks beforehand

Just venting! But what to do?? :(
OK, all attendants live atleast 25 hours from me & won't be town until the wedding (july).

G is having, as his only attendant, be his sister this July.

Her dress coordinates with the BMs, but is a different style etc.

Told her that her dress has arrived in my town (where I placed the order) & that I'm getting ready to mail it to her.

She replies "I plan to come in early july to get the dress fitted, etc and to see old friends... so the size in july will be the most accurate... don't worry about the store policy on reporting defects in sizing.. i will make it work on my own.. please hold onto dress for when i arrive in july"

Note: if the dress is defective now, there's no changing it in july, the manufacturer will not accept it back.
Does anyone truly know someone who can do alterations in under 2 weeks?
What if the dress is too small now?? You can't let a dress out if there isn't enough fabric.
Would she care more if she bought it HERSELF? G bought it for her ($280).
Any suggestions on how to deal with her?

Thanks for listening.

Her one and only responsibility is to get the dress and make sure that it fits.  Don't treat her like a child, trust her to do it.  Even if she does end up having to wear something completely different because this one doesn't fit at all, it's not the end of the world, especially if she's the only groom's attendant.

This is not your problem, and you're setting yourself up for a sour relationship with someone who's going to be around for a long, long time if you try to micromanage.

This in bold. You will have a million other things to think of. It is the sisters "responsibility" to make sure it fits properly for the wedding day.

Don't worry about it. 2 weeks is plenty of time to get fitted for a dress. Seriously, have you ever been fitted for any dress other than weddings you were in? I'm sure it worked out just fine.

And it's a little bit hard for you to get upset at her for a $280 dress, you didn't have to pick one that was so expensive.

My wedding gown was fitted in just one fitting and took one week.  I'm sure she can handle getting her BM dress fitted in that amount of time.  It's her dress, it's her responsibility.

My wedding gown was the only garment I've ever had altered in my life.  I've never had a BM dress fitted, or known anyone who did.

I've had dresess altered in under two weeks. There are places at the mall, dry cleaner, etc. that can do it.

Our local dry cleaner took in a cocktail dress for me in under a week, and a seamstress near my Mom's house did my last BM dress in under 2 weeks.  She may have to do a little research, but it's doable.  Don't fret about it Smile

Also, you look new.  You should hop on over to the July 2011 board and introduce yourself!

Thanks all! After my mini-vent session yesterday, I'm over it. And yes, it's not my problem.
There are so many positive things to think about! :)

My sister is flying in 2 days before my wedding and will need her dress altered.  Some of it can be done before she gets here (like getting the straps removed).

Don't stress.  It will all be fine.

I don't think it will be an issue. She will be able to get it fitted in time.

Just take the dress out of the bag, inspect it for any glaring defects or flaws, and stick it in a closet somewhere until FSIL visits.

My wedding dress didn't even arrive until two and a half weeks before our wedding, and everything turned out fine.

Agree with PPs.  She's an adult.  Let her figure it out.

It sounds like she's trying to save you shipping trouble.  Or maybe she's trying to lose weight and get measured closer to the wedding!  haha  Either way, she's a big girl and knows what she's doing.

Although only having 2 weeks for alterations would stress me out too and I made a point to have my ladies order their dresses EARLY, I would just defer to your FSIL's judgment here.
