Dessy Twist dress--alterations?

I really love this dress--the color, the fabric, and the fact that it's convertible. But, I have a cocktail-length sample in, and it's LONG. Like, almost tea-length. It has a raw hem; does anyone have experience altering these by cutting extra length off the bottom?

I don't think the problem is that I'm particularly short (I am), because I'm wearing the smallest size. The dress is just... long. My maids aren't tall, I'd like something above the knee--true cocktail length.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this dress is similar to twobirdsbridesmaid.com dresses, but they are also very long for my BMs. It's very simple, according to two birds, to get them cut anywhere since they don't have a hem at the bottom. Any seamstress can do it with proper scissors or a bit more expensive, but better option, is to have them "laser cut." This is what the girl told me!

Just FYI-- I loved these dresses when I saw them, and was going to suggest them for my BM's, but after advice from others, they are really difficult to wear and look good in. There's no good bra for them (or you can see the bra) and they tend to hug in all the wrong places. Not trying to talk you out of it, just make sure EVERYONE tries it on before you purchase it. You may not like the way they look after all, and I would hate to see you disappointed about it :-(

I agree with hbtk.  Some of the infinity dresses are almost impossible to wear a bra with because the back of the dress is so low.  I've heard great things about this dress from American Apparel.  The back is a lot higher, so wearing a good bra is easier to do.

Awesome, thanks so much for the feedback you all.

I'm going to pass my sample on to the rest of my BMs and see what they think... if no, then back to the drawing board ASAP!
