Non- Attendant Gifts

Hi everyone!

What types of gifts are you giving to those involved in your wedding (non-attendants)? We have 2 musicians that are church friends of mine, 2 readers that are fiance's cousins (our age), my aunt is helping as our day-of coordinator, plus we have 3 sets of parents. I need ideas! Thanks :)

Our parents got gift certificates to various favored places, and they're getting photo books as soon as they come in.  Our reader is a Starbucks addict, so we got her a gift card and a travel mug.  Our videographer cut us a major discount, so she got a really nice set of dice, and her husband got a T-shirt that's sort of an inside joke with us.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Parents are in a separate category because sentimental gifts are probably most appropriate (and I wouldn't give anyone else a commemorative  gift, unless it was not their main gift). I think the nicest gift to get a parent is a heartfelt note thanking them for raising you and supporting you up until and through your marriage. You should probably get them a physical gift as well, but sometimes people wait and get their parents a framed wedding photo or something that has not much monetary value, but a lot of sentimental value.

For the I-could-be-paid-for-this-job (musicians, coordinator) I think in general gift cards are great, the amount would depend on how much they're doing (are they playing organ for the service or singing one song)? Not that you're paying them, but more of a token gift would be OK for one song, but kind of insulting for the entire service (for which a musician can be paid $100+). Basically think about what they would be getting paid and don't try to match it, but don't have it be an embarassing fraction of it, like giving your organist a $15 GC.

Obviously you know the individuals better and perhaps they would prefer physical gifts but I think you can't really go wrong with a GC.

I agree with sister2groom.  If you know the vendors/friends well enough, get them something you know they would like (as if you were shopping for them for their birthday).  Otherwise, gift cards are a great idea.  I would suggest gift cards to a restaurant.

I read in a friend's/family member's wedding almost a year ago. I did not receive a gift (or really expect one, although it would have been a nice touch), so apparently it's not required to give readers gifts (or involve them in any pre-wedding parties that do not involve bringing presents...hmm...etiquette at it's best!).

I'd say restaurant gift cards would be good for the church friend musicians. A personalized gift might be nice for the readers, since I'd guess you know them fairly well, probably same for your aunt. The parent's gifts might be something more significant and sentimental.

I got our reader a gc to amazon and some local chocolates because she liked chocolate. As for our friend who did the sound, we got him a tie that he'd been eyeing....not a type of tie you're thinking about. It looked like it was made of legos.
