Maids and Usherette Jewelry Gifts

I have three bridesmaids and four usherettes in my wedding party. I know typically the bride buys the jewelry for the maids, but I am wonderding if I should buy them for the girls who will be our ushers also. I don't know many people who have had female ushers so am just looking for some other input.

Actually, the bride doesn't have to purchase jewelry for the BM.  You could just let them wear their own.  IMO, it's a waste of money unless it's something nice they they could wear again and individualized (not personalized) for each girl.  No one but the bride ever notices what jewelry the BM wear and, if the bride doesn't pick it out, sometimes the bride herself.

If you're going to go to Claires or some place like that where the jewelry is cheap then I would skip it and allow the girls to wear what they want.

Also, if you're requiring the girls to wear it for the wedding, it's not really a gift but part of their attire.

ditto jagore.  There's absolutely NO reason to micromanage down to the jewelry someone wears.

Reality check:  what jewelry were the BMs wearing at the last 6 weddings you attended?  Can't remember?  That's because no one really cares about it except brides planning their own wedding.

And please, "usherettes" sounds like it came straight out of the 50's.  If they're escorting people to their seats, they're ushers.  Leave the ~ette~ off of it.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

Ok I have seen many people saying the same thing about the jewelry over and over again, yet am very confused. In the weddings I have been in the gift was always the jewelry we wore the day of. It was not the bride wanting to dictate what she wanted, it was just a small detail gifted and was always something we could wear again.( I am wearing one of the necklaces in my picture) I say yes give them both the jewelry.

All the weddings I've been in the jewelry I received was to wear on the day of the wedding.  That's not really a gift, it's attire.  I have never worn one piece of BP jewelry again because it just wasn't my style.  It was too dressy and, honestly, cheap.  Now, if they want me to wear jewelry they pick out just because they want us to look uniform (which I think is just silly) that's fine.  Just don't expect that that will become part of my jewelry collection and I'll wear it over and over again.  I feel it's like saying you can wear your BM dress again.  We know the majority of the time that's not true unless the bride says pick any black dress you want.  And if you've got that kind of bride she probably won't be buying matching jewelry for the BM.

If you truly want to give your BM a gift make sure they will definitely use it.  I would get more use out of a tote than I would jewelry another person had picked out for me.

It seems the point that is being made is SOME people find jewelry not to be a gift if it is to be worn the day of. SOME people are just grateful for the gift (if you did not buy it, it is a gift). Do what you feel is right, and I guess you could also get them some other small thing.  But to answer the question you asked you should get both groups a thank you gift as it is a common thing to do. Yes you can get them both the same thing.

What I'm saying is that if you want to get a "gift" for your BM and ushers make sure it's something they will definitely like and use again.  If they won't and you're doing it for the uniformity then you're waisting your money.  And if that could be the case then you should think about what you've heard brides are supposed to do and think about what you think your BM would like and really use again.

I have no idea what jewelry my bridesmaids wore, it didn't really matter.  I preferred to spend my money on a gift they'd individually appreciate and treasure.

Unless your friends are clones, I highly doubt that they all have exactly the same taste in jewelry, so it's unlikely that they'll all truly appreciate exactly the same thing.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

First of all trix I dont recall your input needed on me calling them Ushers or Usherettes. My Fiance and I think Usherettes is fun and that is what we will do.

Second of all I was just was looking for a simple 'yes get them the same thing' or a 'no get them something different'. I don't understand peoples need to rant about things instead of a simple answer.

Thanks Maemolly for your kind input.

    Thanks Elissa.

I was talking with my sister and she brought up a good point. They are all wearing whatever dress they want so they sound wear whatever jewelry they want. Since their dresses won't match no need match the jewelry.

    Glad that is settled :)
