Just some background info before I ask this question:
1) I am a BM in two weddings (one in Dec and one in Feb)
2) I do have a wedding coming up of my own in 10 months, but the only things I have asked my friends to do for the wedding were a) I asked a friend to look at one reception venue with us because its a block away from her house and she's always wanted to see the inside and b) two friends came dress shopping with me...they were happy to do so and we have a regular happy hour date on Tuesdays and i didnt want to miss a bridal store sale
Just that info because I dont want you to think I actually feel this way, but...
What is the origin of the word bridesmaid? To me, it seems like it is the contraction of bride's maid...because if it were brides maid, then it would be refering to more than one bride...like I said, I have NO intention of treating my BMs like my maid...its really just a question of etymology...im a grammar/history dork and like knowing these things and I can only find info on the history of BMs not the word
