Moms and Maids

Please tell me I'm not crazy!!

My mom and I have been having some control issues.  It seems as though she doesn't realize that this is not her day to be in the spotlight.  I want her to feel special on our wedding day, but it hurts my feelings that this day is so special for us and all she cares about is her moment in the sun.

So just yesterday she announces that she wants a special moment in the processional.  That's all fine and dandy, but then she insists that my dad usher her down the aisle!! She wants him to bring her down the aisle, then come back to get me.  Isnt this supposed to be a huge moment for my dad and I?  It shouldn't be taken away from because she can't just be walked down like the other grandmothers and such.

please tell me I'm not crazy for thinking this is going too far!

</div><div>You seem a bit oversensitive, but I'm assuming this is just the icing on the cake after a few things like this. I think directly telling her no would be a bad idea. Do you have any brothers or male cousins? Maybe you could ask one of them to say that they really wanted to walk her down the aisle and were dissappointed to not get that honor. A little bait and switch with her ego?

I think you are overreacting just a bit.

I understand that this may have been the last straw in a long line of other annoying things your Mom has done but it really isn't the end of the world.

If your Mom wants her husband to escort her to her seat then that is fine.  It isn't like him walking your Mom to her seat will take away from his moment with you.  He will still get his moment  (and so will you) of walking you down the aisle.  Needless to say walking the bride down the aisle is a bit of a bigger deal then walking the MOB down the aisle.

Just breathe.  Letting yourself get so worked up over people that you can't control is pointless.

haha, for some reason just hearing i'm being oversensitive from someone outside my family  made me realize i am taking things way too personally.  it really is just everything added up that is making me over the top about the smaller things.

i suppose it's not the end of the world. :) thanks!

What your mom is requesting is not that unusual. I have seen it done many times. The MOB is escorted down the aisle by her husband BEFORE the procession starts. That is the cue to the musicians and the guests that the procession is about to start. Once your dad is back by your side, the first bm can head down the aisle. I promise it won't take any attention away from you.

  • Like Maire - I too, have seen this done many times.  Glad you are letting this roll off your back.  It's NBD.
  • I went to a wedding recently wherein the FOB escorted his sister to her seat, went back, escorted the MOB to her seat, went back again, and finally escorted the bride. It was a little amusing to see him keep coming down the aisle, but it didn't take away from the bride's moment with him at all.

I was just at a wedding where ther FOB escorted his wife, the step-FOB walked the MOB down the aisle, then they both turned around and walked the bride down. Not too weird at all!.
