What color hat and shoes?

My daughter is getting married in late June in the deep South where hats are it. When I lived there I used to wear hats all the time my daughter wants me to wear one for her wedding which I am happy about because I wanted to wear one as well.

My very first dress I had it ALL picked but my daughter didn't like it on the hanger when it arrived @ her house so I told the MOG she could go with her first color, she was going to do another color since mine was her first choice, she was estatic! :)

When I got down there tried the dress on my daughter LOVED it but I couldn't go back and tell MOG that she couldn't use that color. So I will wear that one @ the RD and  was out again to find another dress and found  one baught it but saw this dress as well and ordered it. I don't have a pic of the one I already bought but I am thinking I like this one better even though it hasn't arrived yet. The jewlery I have will match both dresses so I am good there :)

I am having a hard time deciding on what color or style of hat to wear since the dress already has alot of detail and @ a loss on the color of of shoes. Silver would/could be the answer for both but I feel it would look more like a "winter": attire. Her colors are Lavender, malibu, and Sangria.

I will preface this by stating that I am FAR from a fashionista, and a minimalist at heart.  That said, kindly take my suggestion with a LARGE grain of salt!  If it matters, I am also "middle aged" but, I would like to think, NOT "middle" minded :-)

The dress has some beautiful detail.  To add too much would take away from the ruching, ruffle, and floral embellishments.  Honestly, on the model, I feel the necklace is unnecessary and detracts from the inherently lovely neckline.

Not knowing your hair type/style, or fashion preferences, I wonder if you could do a little less hat and more of a fascinator/headband type of headwear.  Something that plays on ONE of the dress details, whether it be the flower, the simple waved ruffle, or something with a ruched look, I think would look lovely without taking away from the dress.  As far as color, I would try not to think about colors as seasonal, and just play with what looks best.  Perhaps a more "muddied" silver....such as a pewter, or other jewel tone, would look pretty.

Also, for what it's worth, I am wearing a navy dress for my daughters wedding, and the MOG has intimated that she may also wear navy.  For us, it is really a non-issue.  I attended a wedding in January where the MOB and MOG also both wore champagne colored dresses.  They both looked lovely and no one thought otherwise of it.  The dress styles were different and no two shades of any color really look that identical.  Just thought I would add a different perspective to the mix.  Good luck :-)

We are so much alike on this! :) I agree I thought the detail and hat would be way too much. Funny that navy blue was my first choise as well. Thanks for your input! :)

This was my original attire:  :(

I think I'm experiencing hat envy : ) As you know, we don't wear hats 'up here,' very often.
I found a very nice website with a large variety of hats - cocktail, brimmed, wedding, spring, church etc...The price range is great, too. I think I would go with a cocktail hat with your very formal dress, if it's an evening wedding. If this will be an outdoor garden ceremony a brimmed hat would probably be my choice. The color choices are phenomenal. Look at:

Have fun looking. I'm hoping that by the time my daughter's wedding rolls around that everyone will have caught hat fever. Maybe the Royal Wedding will have some influence.

Thanks Retread! :) I think we both will feel beautiful:)

I  have toyed with the idea of going with the first pick but I just can't bring myself to it :( The MOG and I were trying to ad subtle color "accent" to the colors in the wedding. Since the GM are wearing the blue it's great that the MOG is wearing a shade of blue, and since the BM are the lavender and sangria I think I should go with shades of those. How cool is that! We were going to be oppisite thus my first pick was blue but.....lol

I think there shouldn't be an outshining moment other than the bride :)

The MOG was happy as well on the hat idea since she lives "up north" too. Not sure if she will wear one, we keep things to ourselves but she wanted to know how "formal" or informal. So I did let her know that I will be weraing a hat. But she does like saying what she expects :(

She (MOG)doesn't want to see the wedding dress until the day of, which I think is a  GREAT idea when I thought about her decissio and the reasons! We invited her and my daughters SM, but they wanted just my daughter and I to have our "day" How sweet. My daughter is so blessed to now have 3 fabulous women to trun to. We 3 have distictively differnet great qualities that one may lack but the other may shine in.
