Which style Bridesmaids Dresses will compliment my Gown?

I just found my wedding gown! It's La Sposa Dalmacia- a mermaid, white chiffon gown with ruffle on the bottom half and on the upper top area. I am not sure which style dress will compliment my gown because it is a bit dramatic. I don't want to have too much going on up on the altar, but I also want the Bridesmaids' dresses to reflect the ruffle style and soft fabric.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Dresses don't need to complement your gown.  You chose your dress because it complements your body, you should choose bridesmaids' dresses that complement the bodies of your bridesmaids.  I'm a bigger girl and if someone put me in a trumpet style or mermaid dress I would cry and beg for a different dress.  Think about the bodies - and budgets - of your girls, and go from there.

For me, it meant looking for a dress that wasn't strapless - two of my girls have large chests and I knew they'd be uncomfortable tugging up a dress all night.  But seriously - put the people, NOT the fashions, first.

Thanks for replying! I had no intention of asking my bridesmaids to wear mermaid-style dresses. I do, however, want their dresses to compliment (not match) mine in terms of some of the features (softer fabric and some ruffling detail). I agree that all of my bridesmaids should feel comfortable, so I have already told them once we have a color scheme and a general theme, they can pick whatever style they'd like. :)

Using the chiffon material should be enough of a nod to your dress without making too big a design statement.  There are lots of pretty dresses in this material, and the soft floaty material is good on a lot of body types.

Rather than starting out thinking about the bm dresses in terms of how they relate to your dress, why not start out looking generally for dresses that work on your bm's and then narrow it down from there based on what would look best with your dress.

Ditto this.  I've also never really understood the whole "bridesmaids need to coordinate with me" thing, unless you're being extremely traditional and having them all wear the same thing as you to confuse the evil spirits coming to snatch you away.  I've been to a lot of weddings, and it had never even crossed my mind to consider the bridesmaid dresses in comparison to the wedding gown.  As long as they're all appropriately formal, that's coordination enough.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Ditto this. Ask them what their budget is, too.

I uderstand what you mean by you want the BM's dresses to have the same feel as your dress, because you don't want to have a classic wedding dress and have the BMs wear tea length dress. I try the same designer and pick the color and let them chose, or pick out a simple dress style that would look good on all of your BMs.

Here is a website I loveeee! I had my BMs get their dress by this designer, they are kind of exspensive(over $100), but worth it if you pick a great dress in a color that they can actually wear again!

My sentiments exactly. If you REALLY want them coordinated, stick with a specific fabric and/or color.
