NWR-Job help

Hi ladies,

I was wondering if anyone had any insight to this since alot of you are job searching or recently newly hired. My fiance graduated in Dec. with a bachelors in business management and is still trying to find a job. He has previous sales experience as a pawn broker, and years of customer service experience in the grocery business. His biggest problem is he doesn't know what he wants to do. He was looking at like some kind of retail management like Target but I think something more corporate would fit better.

Just curious if any of you know of any openings anywhere that would possibly be a good match for him. He is an extremely hard worker so I know he would be an asset to any company, it's just trying to get his foot in the door.

TIA!

What I wound up doing is taking an entry-level job at a great company and moved around internally.  I started in payroll, moved to recruiting position, moved to an HR data management position, and finally became an HRIS business analyst.  Finding a good company that will help him grow will be a great asset!

If he wants to do healthcare admin stuff I can try to help with an entry level thing at UT Southwestern.

Despite what people are saying about the economy, there are a lot of jobs out there right now. It just depends on what he wants to do.

You said he has sales experience. Does he want to go into sales? He could try something like financial services. (Edward Jones, New York Life, etc). Normally they don't require much experience because they like to do most of the training within. If you're dedicated, and good at it, you can make A LOT of money in that industry.

I work in Tax, within the Private Wealth Mgmt division of Bank of America. BoA has lots of opportunities if he is interested in going into the banking side. He would for sure have to start out at the bottom, but doesn't everyone! haha.

It really all depends on what he is interested in, and what he thinks he can sell his skills at. Finding a job is all about selling yourself...

Sometimes if you don't have a clue what you want to do, the easiest way to find out, is just jump into something and find out what you DON'T want to do first. So you can narrow fields down and say "Well, tried that, that's out!".

JeffandDeepthi- healthcare/science is more my area so I doubt he has an interest in that, but thanks :)

NMac2010- I have suggested to him to try banks like Chase and BOA. His sis is in the mortgage area at BOA and I think he was considering that, but most places require extensive prior knowledge.

steph- pretty much anywhere in the metroplex. We both live in Dallas and I work in Lewisville, and eventually we want to move closer, but it could include Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Dallas, Lewisville, Garland, Mesquite....yeah not too picky on location.

Thanks for the help so far ladies!

Are you wanting stablility and security?  These types of sales positions usually start out on a draw and then are 100% commission.  They also require licenses that he will usually be able to start on after he is hired.

Internships are a good way to try out a new field and get some work experience. There are a lot of paid ones out there.

Right, sometimes people are just natural at sales. Hence why I said "if you're dedicated, and good at it", you can make a lot of money. I know many people in sales that make a stable six figures a year and have been for years. Of course you don't start out like that, that's where the dedication comes in.

It's not for everyone though, that's for sure.

I agree with you.  I also agree that you can make a lot of money in the financial industry.  I just wanted to point out it is a lot of hard work and is not very stable or secure for the first several years.  It's just my two cents.

Both FI and I work for AT&T, we love the company, they have excellent benefits (health insurance at 30 days!) and lots of room to grow within the company. AT&T is based in Dallas and there are several headquarters buildings in the area, plus lots of sales jobs. It may not be what he wants, but it could definitely be a great thing till he finds the job of his dreams.

You're right, it's not the most stable career. Which is why I looked into it for a while, but then realized right now probably isn't the best time because with the wedding and us trying to buy a house we need a stable income from the both of us. I would love to get into the industry though, just at a point where we can afford the instability-so to speak.

NMac2010 - Yeah, if you need two incomes - it's not the best.  I work in the financial industry, but I'm not a "sales"person, so to speak.  I don't earn commission.  But, you do have to have experience (classes, etc.) to get in the way I did.  If you are interested in the field or just want to know more about it, I would be glad to tell you more.  (Not that I'm an "expert" or anything).  Just PM me.
