Does anyone have any advice on doing the Unity Sand Ceremony?

I will be integrating the Unity Sand ceremony into my wedding.  I wanted to know if anyone has experience and advice on the best way to execute it. Thanks!

  • It's really not that complicated.  Have one color of sand in one vase and one color in the other, and when it's time, pour.  Ours was fun.  We laughed a lot during it because we kept trying to pour at the right speeds to make it make a cool design.  There are pics in my married bio.

  • My best friend just did this at her ceremony. She had black sand to stand out against her dress, and her husband used white to stand out against his black tux. She got a decorative vase engraved with their last initial and they took turns pouring their sand into the vase, to create a pattern. They had a friend sing a song during this part.

It was a nice part of ceremony, maybe a little long though. I might suggest a shorter song, or maybe just a reading during this portion.

And remember to remove the price tags from the vases! My friend left one on the bottom of the pouring vases and you can see it in all the photos.
