gifts for destination wedding

We are flying for Hawaii for a friends wedding.  I have never been to a destination wedding so not quite sure what to do when it comes to the gift.   Do we bring a gift to the wedding or give them a gift before we leave/when we come back?  It's a small beach wedding but I assume that we still need to buy a gift.

Re: gifts for destination wedding

  • Normally, people send boxed gifts before the wedding (at least this is what I was taught growing up). I'd either ship it to the address they have on file with their registry, or bring a card with a check or gift card to their registry store to the wedding.

  • What msmerymac said.  Please don't bring gifts because they'll have to get them home :(

We had a DW and people sent gifts to my home address or gave us gift cards/checks at the wedding.
  • PLEASE do as the other posters advised. Gifts should never be toted to a wedding, local or destination. It just creates problems for the family of the bride, they have to schlep everything home. The exception would be a wedding held at the home of the bride and groom.
