Father/Daughter dance with a girl singer?

We got a band for the wedding which is yay! It's the band my father plays in, they're getting a substitute guitar player and they're doing the wedding mosty for free

In our new family tradition my dad has wrote the music for our wedding march(it was our mother's as well) my dad will sing our first dance.

However for my father daughter dance I'd rather not use my iPod, the singer of the band is female. But my sister also has a beautiful singing voice... I'd like her to sing the father/daughter dance.

Would this be weird or am I over thinking? Even if the song was written as a song from her father to her, it should be ok right?

  • Overthinking bigtime.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Oh yeah.  Seriously overthinking.  By your logic, NO couple should use any song because it wasn't written just for them.

My DH danced with out DD to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland.  Uh-oh.....it was written for someone else.

Do you like the song?  Do you like the singer?  Done.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I think the OP is asking if it's ok if a female singer performs the song during the Father/Daughter dance although the song is usually sung by a male.  And yes, that would be perfectly fine.  :)

My late FIL did a lot of theater and was Tevya twice in porductions.  At our wedding he sang "Sunrise, Sunset."

At my daughter's wedding - she and her Dad (my husband) had their Father/Daughter dance to "Sunrise, Sunset" as a tribute to her Grandpa.  One of her female friends sang and the singer's Dad played the guitar.
  • Personally I would prefer going with a male singer, especially if it is from the perspective of the father. It might not sound right the other way around
