    1) You don't have anything to do with planning a bridal shower.  You can choose to decline the offer if someone offers to host it, but if no one is offering to host, you don't have a choice in the matter.

    2) If people want to give you a gift, they will either ship it to your house or bring it to the reception.  It would be rude to specify when and how people should give you gifts.  You make no mention of gifts or registries unless you are directly asked.  You also include nothing about this in the invitation.

    3) Don't open gifts at the wedding.  Arrange to have them taken to your home after the wedding and open them in private.  If any gifts arrive before the wedding, open them immediately and send a TY note, and put them away until after the wedding.
  • If someone offers to throw you a shower and you accept, then you will get gifts at the shower.  The whole point of a shower is to "shower the bride with gifts."  If you don't want a shower, then you forgo those gifts.

People will also get you guys wedding presents.  Typically they either send them to you before the wedding or they bring them to the wedding reception.  You open them later, usually the next day or when you get back from your honeymoon.  You definitely do not open them at the wedding or reception.  Then you send thank you cards asap.

  • Um, people buy presents for both. Or, in my circle, you get a gift for your shower and cash for the wedding. Ideally people will ship the gifts to you so you can open them right away and send TYs before the ceremony, but some will bring gifts to the ceremony as well.

Whatever you do, do not mention what gifts you want or how people should give them to you.

  • for the wedding I will not be opening gifts.  Its very time consuming and boring for the guests.  So set them aside and open them at another time.  And as previously posted - send out the TY cards ASAP!!!
