I'm Irish(ancestral) and he's Puerto Rican...mixing it up? Help!

I have been reading all kinds of ideas on how to incorporate traditions into the wedding but I really can't find much about Puerto Rican traditions. anyone have any ideas what I can do too bring his heritage into the mix? I have read some posts here and there but I think I just want someone to tell me exactly what to do!! :( I know it's up to me in the end but I would greatly appreciate some feedback...

  • I went to a wedding in November that was Irish/Puerto Rican!  They made the mass bilingual,  and then at the reception had 3-4 latin dance type songs, and then would play 3-4 typical wedding songs.  The night was very fun!

  • How very cool! I have definitely thought of trying a couple latin dances...good luck to me..wink, wink. thx! I'm glad you had fun!
  • Polish-Am. (me) and Peruvian here!  We are definitely doing a mix of standard wedding fare (US music) and Latin music at the reception.  Our programs will be bilingual and we will have some readings in Spanish too, I think.
  • Hi, well my wedding will have a mixture of Honduran and Puerto Rican traditions, gonna have some awesome foods.  Anyways, Im puerto rican and can tell you a few traditions.  First, the bridal bouquet has capias which are little dolls with fabric around it and with ribbon that has wedding date and names of the "novios", these are pinned to all the guests at the reception from the bride and groom as a token of appreciation for attendance.  Second, there is usually a small doll dressed like the bride infront of the table where wedding party sits.  The cake , bizcocho, is usually of pineapple, coconut, or rum flavoring.  Sometimes cafe is served with the cake at the reception.  A "bolada" a waltz like some songs from Cheyenne "Tiempo de valz" is played for the main dance.  And of course the all famous arroz con gandules y pernil is generally served for part of the meal as well as flan as another dessert.  Salsa, merengues, and reggeaton music are generally played for dancing.  There are a few more ofcourse that you can easily look up online like with google, " Puerto Rican Tradtions" and "Boricua Traditions for Bodas".  There is a site called bodaclick.pr that has lots of ideas, but mainly in spanish.  I wish you the best, and hope this helped out.  Im sure it will be beautiful with both cultures
