who should walk me down the aisle

my father passed away when i was four and we lived with my grandparents for many years before my mom remarried.  i was never close with my step dad.  we bonded some after i moved out of the house, but i still don't feel that closeness with him.  however, i am very close with my grandfather and want him to walk me down the aisle and be my father daughter dance dance replacement, but i am afraid i will hurt my step dad's feelings.  in the past couple of years he has really bagan to view me as his daughter, but i still feel like my grandfather is the closest thing i have to a father.  can i have my grandfather walk me down the aisle?  if so how do i go about letting my step dad down easy?

Re: who should walk me down the aisle

  • Aisle.

Yes, you can ask your grandfather.  Address it with your mother and let her know your intentions.  There's no need to say anything to your step-dad unless he brings it up.
  • It's up to you and how you feel, and it sounds like your grandfather should be the one to walk you down the aisle. Maybe you could do two dances, one with your grandfather and then one with your stepdad.
  • My father wasn't around when I was younger and my grandfather pretty much stepped in as my dad.  It was always my intention for him to walk me down the isle but he recently passed away.  Despite the fact that my dad has been trying to have a relationship the past few years I have asked my brother to walk me down the isle.  I sat my father down and told him and he wasn't upset at all.  This is YOUR day! Do what makes you happy.  Maybe you could tell your stepdad that you want to ask your grandfather & throw in that you want to do a dance with each of them. This way you get what you want and your stepdad doesn't feel left out.

  • i would definitely have your grandfather do it. it's obvious he's the right choice. just do as pp suggested. tell your even if she doesn't i don't see the need to mention anything to sd.
