He wants one thing, I want another....what to do?...

O.k so first my FI is color blind so when it comes to attire he's is more of the "small detail" kinda guy, not super fashion savy, but he knows how to dress himself well. Himself being the keyword there. I want the BM's to have some sort of choice when it comes to what they wear for the wedding. I like the idea of picking one or two colors then giving them some free reign on style so the they can express their individual style. He wants compleatly matching dresses, and sinces he is color blind he says, it will look very off to him and he wont enjoy it at all. Which I berlieve him and I know that, but at the same time he's not the one who has to wear the dress all night. I personally HATE the idea of matching BM dresses, despise it with a passion. I want to come to some sort of compermise, because it's his wedding too and I want him to enjoy it, but Im at a loss. I dont want say forget you your opion don't matter but I really want the girls to have some choices instead of just saying this is how it's going to be. I dont know how to find the middle ground.

Any ideas would be helpful, I admit i am stubborn when it comes to fashion sutff so compermising on this is hard for me.

Re: He wants one thing, I want another....what to do?...

  • I married a colorblind man. You know what he told me as far as the BM dresses go? "They're dresses. Why do I need to know about them?".

You know what he told me about the color scheme? "I'm a man, please no pink".

Otherwise, I didn't hear a peep out of him regarding colors or attire.

  • I think I would laugh myself into hysterics if my DH suggested that the dresses that my friends were wearing would have any impact on his enjoyment of our wedding.

Sorry, but the girls' dresses are up to you and the women actually paying for and wearing them.  Your FI should concern himself with the guys' tuxes, where he actually gets a say.
  • Yeah, If FI told me it woudl affect his enjoyment, I'd ask him why he's paying so much attention to them. That's a cop out if I ever heard one.

  • Well at least someone gets it! lol, we'll sort it our, mostly by me just not saying anything when we get the girls dresses, maybe. Im not worried about it, but it's nice to here thatim not just being stubborn and someone else agrees with me.

  • Just curious, but who is paying for the BM dresses?  If you are asking your BM's to them I would give them as many options as possible and go for 2 colors and free reign on styles

PS Unless you're dressing the girls like strippers I can't see what difference it makes to your Fi whatsoever, I applaud his modern man "hands on" approach to wedding planning but BM dresses is a "hands off" subject, bless him!
  • I agree on the compromise.  Choose on color and stick to a length of dress (long, tea length or knee length) then let the BMs choose the style they like best.  That way they are all long and red (or whatever length or color you choose) but one may be strapless, another a halter etc.  That way it will look somewhat uniform but with each girl's twist to it.

  •  You could try StyleShake they are a UK based company that allow you to design dresses online and then they make them for you (I found them yesterday), they use gorgeous silk or you can have cotton or jersey.  I don't know if they ship to the US but you could ask them.

You can pick different accent colours so you could add contrasting belts or features to some of the dresses.
