BM "Guidelines"

Greetings! I am having a vintage-inspired wedding in a local brewery (think prohibition). We are having 3GM, 3BM. I would really like to tell my gals to go ahead and find a dress, that they enjoy, and fits with the 'theme'. Colors are just tones of brown, black & ivory. Should I decide to do this, what kind of guidelines would be reasonable?

Re: BM "Guidelines"

  • I would either tell them a specific color and length that you would want them to go with. Or let each one pick a different color dress in the same length or material. It sounds like you are going to be really flexible, so pick out one or two aspects that you would like their dresses to have, and let them go from there.

  • Black knee-length cocktail or semi-formal dress?  LBDs can fit with any theme, because they are timeless.  Or are you looking for more conformity than that?

You can specify no embellishments or whatever, or you can ask them to please show you before they buy something.
  • That's perfectly fine.  Usual dress guidelines can include length, designer, color, fabric, and so on.  If you're going to take a bit of a looser rein, it might be best to gather some examples of the sort of dresses you're looking for, and be sure to retain veto power.  If the girls know that you'll tell them if it's wrong, they'll have a bit more confidence in shopping.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • ^like the LBD idea!  Every girl needs at least one of those... ;)
