Wedding Party

Just need to vent

When I moved here I became friends with this girl.  We went out a few times and had fun, but recently I realized how bad she is trying to compete with me and "out do" me on everything.  She started dating FI's brother and was talking about what their wedding would be and how they would do this with their lives, etc. They dated a llittle over a month and broke up.  Within a couple weeks she found a new bf (FI's cousin- they don't get along) and was immediately in love. As soon as she knew FI and I were moving in together, it was "oh us too! AND we are going to buy a house!"
We are both teachers and now she has to post on FB about her school budget woes. I mentioned something and suddenly her situation was worse.  I showed her a picture of what the guys are wearing in our WP and her FI "fell in love" with it and is going to wear that too.  So now everything she does is either exactly the same as what I do or just a little "one up" from what I am planning.

I know our weddings are going to be completely different with different guest lists and in different parts of the country, but I am about ready to throw out wacky ideas just to see if she in fact is copying me. I know it's completely juvenile, but it is just bothering me that I now feel like I have to keep things private (not just wedding plans) because someone needs to do everything I do.

  • Stop sharing information with her.  You can set your FB settings so that she can't see your wall posts or write on your wall.  You can block her on your news feed.  And then just don't share info with her.

One-uppers are annoying.  You have my sympathy.

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • I'm all for throwing out fake ideas.  I would definitely stop passing along any accurate wedding information.  Either stop talking about it or lie.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I don't post ANY wedding info on my wall, I don't want people getting sick of reading it.  If they want to know they can ask or if I want them to know I will tell them.  But it's little things like today I said I wanted to make jelly and she said "oh yeah I made jelly last week and it was amazing" or I commented on her post about school and she actually said to me "beat this...."

I think I am going to block her from reading my stuff.

  • Blocking people is great.  One of my mom's friends friended me and decided anytime I posted something he was going to call her up and tell her (she doesn't have FB) and it just got too weird, but I thought it might be more trouble than it was worth to defriend him.  It's a lifesaver.

  • I do have several groups and block certain things from some of them. I can just make a group called "copycat" and put her in it and block any life info from her.

  • My brother's posts got REALLY annoying, so I hid him from my news feed.  I pop over to his profile every once in a while to see if he's posting anything other than anti-Democrat, anti-Apple/Google propaganda, but he's not.

  • Last time I checked you guys were still just dating so congrats CA2!!!!!!!!!!  I too vote for fake ideas and blocking her.
"Hey, what do you think of my bridesmaid dresses? Great for all body types. Works out great for my pregger BMs too. I love it, don't you?"

  • Thanks!  I saw that BM dress because I googled "ugly bridesmaid dresses" and that came up. Funny thing is she IS going to have a pg bm!  I decided that was a little too far fetched, but I am going to keep my eye open for horrid ones when I decide to search!

  • Lol, not much of a story :)  We like Oct. 8 and the place we want is still open, but we have yet to book it because we still need to get the OK's from key family members since it will be a DW.

I gave her that dress link. We'll see what she says. I need something more ugly.

  • Haha, I meant engagement story. Like - when did you get engaged?
  • Oct 8, 2011.  There isn't much of an engagement story. We were on a trip back to CA last month and he asked me.

  • FI caught me.  He said "are you talking to girl about wedding stuff?"  He saw the ugly links I posted on her page.  I told him she seems to want to copy everything I have said I liked so I figured I would let her think I liked those just to see what she said. He just told me to stop talking to her.  Oh and that the theme she wants to go with does not match her or her groom.

  • I used to have a friend like that .. It became extremely annoying!

Down to my relationship with my family, the way she talked, walked, dressed EVERYTHING!

They say imitation is the best form of flattery ....I disagree.. It's annoying. I say ..stop being friends with her overall. Once you delete her .. U will be more at peace. Thats what I had to do and now she and I are no longer friends. THANK GOD!
