"Jersey" Fabric Bridesmaid Dress....will it stick out too much???

So I told my bridesmaids to all chose a dress in "Marine" blue from David's Bridal in any style they wanted, though I would prefer it was satin or chiffon (mainly to stay away from taffeta). One of my bridesmaids just found out she is pregnant and will be about 6 months along at our wedding. She found a dress she likes today, but it is "jersey" fabric. I'm worried it might be less dressy and/or stick out more against the other dresses (which are all either satin or chiffon).Any thoughts??? I'm really more concerned about all the girls being comfortable in their dresses, so I'm probably going to tell her it is fine....but just the same I am a little concerned if the jersey is a very different feel (like more casual) than the other fabrics. It is style F13095 if you want to look. My other girls chose dresses that are mostly satin with maybe some chiffon. Thanks!

Re: "Jersey" Fabric Bridesmaid Dress....will it stick out too much???

  • The picture doesn't look like it would stand out.  Personally, I would go over to DB and put it next to one of the other and see, but I think it would probably be fine.  The satin and chiffon are going to look a little different, so it will make sense.
  • My first instinct says that, if DB sells it, it's probably fine. It's not like they sell jogging suits or anything, so it's probably decently dressy. Does this BM have a pretty good sense of style? As long as she doesn't always walk around looking like a mess, I think I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and trust that she knows to pick something that looks nice. Like you said, her comfort is key at this point (and kudos to you for realizing that!).

  • One thing to consider: jersey can be a very unflattering fabric. Unless the dress design was well thought-out, and then well-constructed, it's going to accentuate every bump and flaw she's got.
  • I wore a jersey dress from DB in a wedding two days ago and it looked a lot dressier than I was expecting it to (Style F13185). She had 6 bridesmaids with incredibly different body types and the cut was flattering on all of us and the fabric was comfortable in 90+ degree heat. The style your BM picked looks similar in cut from the waistline so it should be just fine.DBs colors are all so similar fabric-to-fabric, but ditto PP about just going down there and comparing in person.
  • I think this dress will look lovely on your BM with her 6 month bump.  What style are the other dresses?
  • Here are the other dress style numbers: F13573, F12385, 81441, F13287 The last bridesmaid has yet to fully decide but she thinks: F13062.So in all I have 6 bridesmaids.  These 5 are all either in satin or chiffon (or a combo of the two). Thanks for the comments so far-----I'm feeling a little better about the idea!

  • I let my girls choose their db dresses as long as it was lapis and long. 2 picked the jersey styles, one chiffon, two satin, and one one is a satin chiffon mix. when holding all of them up together the colors are all the same but you definitely see the difference in the fabrics. but I think it gives a very unique and interesting look to have different fabrics.
