Suits for groomsmen

I would like our groomsman to wear navy suits for the wedding. I know this is a popular alternative to tuxedos, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a good place to rent suits. I don't want to have to ask the groomsmen to buy suits that they may never wear again. Any suggestions?

Re: Suits for groomsmen

  • Well first, remember that the GM attire isn't really up to you - it's up to your FI.  He's the one to make the call on what he wears and what he'd like them to wear.If he's in agreement, he should do the same thing that is advocated for the ladies.  He should ask each GM individually what the GM is OK with spending on attire.  From there, he can look around and find places that fit. If your FI is loving the navy suit idea and all the GM are OK with it then they can look into local tux shops or Men's Warehouse.  I know they do suit and tuxedo rentals.  Given the cost, I'd also tell the GM that if they want to buy their own, that's fine too.     Just make sure that all of the talking to the GM is done by your FI.  They're his guys and just like it would be out of line for your FI to call up the BMs and tell them what colors he prefers for their dresses or if he's anti-strapless, it's also a bit out of line for you to tell them what to do.  You and your FI should be in agreement but the talking should be done by him.
  • Ditto Banana on all counts.  Let your FI handle this, I'm sure he can get everything in order.
  • Ditto PP - talk to your FI first, if you haven't already. Also, he should talk to the groomsmen and see if they'd rather rent or buy. If you have a Syms near you, try there. FI bought a suit there and he was pleased with the service. If you're willing to travel to New Jersey, it was in Paramus. Their website says there's a location in Berwyn, PA - not sure how close that is to you.

  • Our GM are wearing navy suits too! When my fiance decided to go with it, I was afraid that it would be a lot more expensive for the groomsmen to buy suits, but I did a little research and ended up finding out that buying a suit can be very affordable. You can get them at Kohl's for around $80. I don't think you can rent them for much cheaper than that and I think that suits aren't too hard to wear again (but every one of our groomsmen is going to be a pastor and have to wear a suit every sunday so maybe they're unique) ....anyway.... we ended up telling them to wear a navy suit, and they could buy one in their price range, or rent one or borrow one from someone else. It ended up working out really well.
  • Before committing to this, you or your FI should call around to your local tux shops to make sure a navy suit is something that can be rented. I say this b/c Men's Wearhouse told me yesterday they only rent tuxes, not suits. I want a tan suit for FI, and found an online vendor that will make them to order for a reasonable amount (studiosuits.com), so we'll probably go that route. Just make sure you know that what you want is available before you and your FI commit to it.
  • Thanks for all of the advise! My FI is in total agreement...in fact it was his idea. :) I will def. check out all of the places suggested, and will take any more ideas! Thanks!
  • Hmm.  DH and I just went to Men's Warehouse so he could get measured for BIL's wedding and they had a sign in the store saying they rented them.
