Wedding Party

Are usherettes included in the wedding party pictures?

WIth both my fiance and my parents having eloped, and me being the first of my friends to tie the knot, there seem so many details to figure out. Looking at pictures, it's impossible to tell if all of the men are groomsmen or ushers and groomsmen. Are ushers traditionally included in the formal photos of the wedding party?

I'm having usherettes instead of male ushers who are just being instructed to wear black dresses. Does this affect the situation in anyway? Can I opt to have both pictures taken that include these girls as well as ones that don't?

Thanks guys!

  • I'd include them.  You're requiring them to at least wear certain attire - honor them by having them in photos, invite them to the RD and give them a gift of thanks.
  • Ditto banana.  I'd just add one thing.  Call them ushers, not usherettes.  That just sounds silly.  I don't think the term usher is gender specific, and usherettes sounds very 1950's to me.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

We're having ushers because of the layout of our ceremony venue. They are going to be invited to RD and they are getting small gifts. We're letting them wear any suit they want, they will be in our pictures.

Ditto this.  Unless you paint them blue and make them sing annoying songs as they walk down the aisle.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!
