Witness' age

My Fi was thinking of asking his 16 year old son to be his Bestman.
Is it the bestman that has to sign as witness and does the witness have to be 18 or over to do so?

Re: Witness' age

  • Witnesses have to be 18 or older but the BM doesn't have to be the one to sign the license, it could be anyone.  We had both of our sisters sign ours.

  • It depends, but I think most states require witnesses to be 18.  You can always just have one of the GM, or anyone else, sign the license.  If he wants to ask the son to be his BM, he shouldn't let this stop him.

He can and should be BM, but someone else over 18 needs to sign the license in most states.  But the BM doesn't have to be the one to sign the license at all, and that shouldn't stop him from letting his son participate.  When my aunt got re-married, her 3 sons were GM and the middle son was BM (all were under 18 at the time).  My mom signed the license as witness.
