Transportion Issues

So, to save money my fiance and I have decided to rent a vehicle instead of hiring a limo.  Problem is we have 6 in our wedding party and most large SUVs and minivans only will hold 7 people (not 8 like we need).  Would it be appropriate to ask people to drive themselves to the reception and we get a smaller vehicle?  Open to any thoughts and suggestions.  Thanks!

Yes, I think it is fine for the WP to drive themselves to the reception.  H and I had thought about renting a limo/stretch SUV/whatever to transport our WP from ceremony to reception (about a 10 minute drive).  The cost was just too much to justify for a 10 minute drive.  Also, we figured it would be a pain for our WP to figure out how to get their vehicles to the reception site from the ceremony site if they were going to be riding with us in a limo/whatever.

I think it's fine, just make sure that everyone has a ride.  You may have to help arrange carpools for any OOT attendants, for example.

I think it is fine to have them drive themselves. There isn't a written rule saying you have to have a limo. It is just another vendor making you think you must have their service.

It's not rude to ask them to drive themselves, but give them plenty of notice so they can make arrangements (especially if they'll be coming with a date and the date also needs to get around, or if they plan on drinking that day).
