Protocol for Lady Groomsman

Is there a term for this already?  My FI's close friend will be the first 'groomslady'  I have seen, so wondering what title to give her in the program?

Before ceremony would you have her walk up the aisle with an usher, alone, with a Bmaid or  another groomsman?

I plan on having her in the same dress as BMaids, but a color that works with the guy's suites.  Appropriate, yes?

Re: Protocol for Lady Groomsman

  • Grromswoman.  Or just refer to the sides as Bride's Honor Attendants and Groom's Honor Attendants.

  • We referred to ours in conversation as a groomswoman, though I've also heard the term groomsmaid.  For the program, we listed bride's attendants under one header and groom's attendants under another with the honor attendants asterisked.  There was also a bridesman, so he and the groomswoman were paired up.  Had we not done that, she probably would have walked in side-by-side with a bridesmaid.  We worked out the processional a couple of hours before the ceremony.

For dresses, the idea was to have the bride's side in black and the groom's side in white, with silver accents for all of the attendants.  Since I wasn't too keen on having her in a white dress, I asked her to find something silver.  The dress she ended up with had a black skirt and a silver bodice so it was a little more black, but by the time she showed it to me, she had already purchased it, so I let it go.  I loaned her a white wrap for the ceremony.  (I'd have to go back and look to see if she wore it on the photo tour as well, but I don't think so.)  We talked flowers and she totally flipped over what I was doing for corsages, so that's what she had instead of a bouquet.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • wonderful - thanks for the ideas, and better wording than 'lady groomsman' ;)
  • We are getting married on the beach.. So our guys are in Kakhi pants, white shirts and turqouise ties... (typical I know). Our Bridesmaids are in Turquoise. So for our Groomswoman, she will be wearing a kakhi dress with a turqouise sash..  Just an another idea for you!

That is along the lines of what I was thinking Krissie.   My BMs will be in this dress in Coral, Groomsmen in Grey Suits,  Groomswoman in the grey dress.

  • My FSIL's are standing with my FI on his side. But they wanted to match with the guys a little more and we found these dresses that were a great match.

One in the long, one in the short, with ivory on top to match the grooms suits and the bottom can be color of the bridesmaids dresses, which in our case is charcoal, but they would look great with black tuxes if they were kept black. We are so happy with this choice! The ruffle on the short is my favorite part.

Then it bears asking...what did you do for the corsages??

I think I'm just going to put FI's to groomsgals in whatever the BM dress is, but in black so as to match the GM, with boutonnieres to match and call them...groomsmen? I don't see a problem with it. Up to FI as far as I'm concerned.

I think the inspiration pic is in my planning bio.  I don't think I really got any pictures of the finished product, but you can see her in the ceremony pictures.  Hell if I know what's in my bios anymore.

Edit: Yes, the inspiration pic is in the bio.  If I remember my Weebly passwords, I'll try to put in a better picture of the finished corsage.
