Even sides is an INCREDIBLY crappy reason to leave out a good friend or to being in a random person just to even things out. Most people will say in 10 years, "It was so great to have my best friends there with me." What kind of nut would be saying, "It was so great that I had even sides!"? Seriously ... who do you think will care if you have even sides or not? How the hell will evenness affect your wedding?

Sides don't have to be even.  If you are adamant on having it even by asking someone just for symmetry, it's essentially asking your friends/family to be a prop for photos.

It's about having your closest there with you.  If that means FI has 3 and you have 2, that's fine.  You'll live and you won't regret anything and the world won't end.
  • Why is it necessary that you have even sides?  What do you think will happen if you don't have even sides?  You need to be more worried about the feelings of these individuals then how the number of individuals standing up there will look.

  • We had 6 and 4, and I couldn't have been happier.  If even sides happen naturally, then great, but that seems like a really odd thing to value over friendship.  Getting everyone up and down the aisle and figuring out picture compositions isn't exactly challenging.

Times are changing; feelings are more important than traditions and form.  Think about what's really important here.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

It is not necessary to have even sides.  Also, I'm not sure how having a certain size wedding party means  you can have a better honeymoon?
  • Ditto all PPs. Also, you're a year out, it's still early to ask. Friendships change and once you ask, you're stuck unless you want to look crazy. I'd wait another three months.

[QUOTE]I am waiting a few more months to ask anyone I was just wondering what others thought as I have never seen uneven sides. The three girls I would ask are my closest dearest friends so no the third girl would not just be a prop or a reason to make even sides. The reason we only wanted to do 2 to begin with is because it's a small outdoor wedding. Even sides would not matter on a honeymoon either all I was saying there was we decided on a small wedding so we could spend more on a honeymoon, nothing to do with even sides.

We had 45 guests.  10 of them were in the wedding party.  One has nothing to do with the other.

Do a search for "uneven wedding parties" and you'll see thousands of pictures.  Don't limit yourself on what makes sense for you just because you haven't seen someone else do it before.  As long as you're not hurting anyone's feelings and your guests are hosted properly, there are no rules, just lots of weird tradition.
