Wedding Party

Brotherly love :)

The attendants for our wedding have already been chosen and I would love to get my brother involved somehow. Is it too much of a tradition breaking leap to have him as the ring bearer with the actual rings? He will be 25 yrs old when we get married so I know he's responsible enough to take care of them. Or, if the attendants change (seeing as they don't know who they are yet) would he walk down the aisle solo or with another groomsman?

Re: Brotherly love :)

  • Was it really necessary to say, "He's 25 so he can take care of the rings"?  The man is 25!

I think it's really silly to ask him to do it.  Either ask him to be in the WP, have him do a reading, or have him be a guest.  People would rather be a guest than do some pity job at the wedding.

I personally think you should ask him to be a GM and have uneven sides.  You won't regret uneven sides, but you'll probably regret looking at your WP photos and not seeing your brother there.  For our uneven sides the GM stood at the front with DH and the BMs walked in solo, but I've also seen GM walk in with 2 BMs or 2 BMs with 1 GM, etc.

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • I agree with Brooke. A 25 year old ring bearer is silly. Unless your brother came to you and said he would be absolutely crushed if you didn't have him as a ring bearer in your wedding, there's absolutely no reason to have him as a ring bearer. I would think that it would be highly humiliating for a 25 year old man to do a cutesy job that is assigned to 6 year old children for the sole purpose of being adorable.

Consider having him in your wedding party. If not in the wedding party, a reader or usher. I would definitely nix the idea of ring bearer.

  • I've seen adult ring bearers/flower girls, but really, it only works when they volunteer unprompted for the job.  I think most 25 year olds would be humiliated to be assigned a child's position.

I had my brother on my side and it worked out great.  Uneven sides are really not a big deal, and the processional can be sorted out at the rehearsal.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • A 25 year old ringbearer just sounds incredibly odd to me. He's not a child, don't have him assume a child's role.

  • Ditto pp. That seems silly and ridiculous. He could be an usher, pass out programs or stand up on your side as a groomswoman. Or he could be on your FI's side. The sides don't have to be even.
  • Ask him to be an usher. My brother will be an usher at our wedding and will be walking my mom down the aisle and then sitting in the first row with her and his girlfriend.
