Creative ways to ask my MOH?

Hello!

I'm ready to ask my gf to be my MOH. But am hoping to get some fun ideas...
How did you ask your girls/boys?
I'll have my best friend as MOH and my closest guy friend as my bridesman.

TIA!

Re: Creative ways to ask my MOH?

  • You are not ready to ask your MOH. And this is why.

Your wedding is almost 2 years away. Do you realize how much can change in that time? A lot.

    Like a LOT.

Wait until January or so of 2012. Then ask them.

In the mean time, I just asked them through Facebook. There are cool ecards you can send. Anything like that.

  • I picked up the phone and asked.  Not everything needs to be a production, and if you're having trouble coming up with a cutesy idea on your own, I tend to think it's a sign you should skip the mini-ceremony and just ask.  For the WP, the honor is in BEING asked, not in HOW they are asked.

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • Oh, you're not getting married until Aug 2012?  Definitely wait.  There is no reason to ask now.  Don't paint yourself into a corner two years out.  There's nothing for the WP to do this early anyway.

  • Thank you all for advice!

FI and I are going out of the country for a year starting January(for his job). So I need to book a venue and cake and flowers now, or it'll be too late by the time we get back.  I feel funny about asking her to help me without having her be my MOH officially? Am I overthinking it?
  • You don't need to ask the WP before you leave.  I would actually advise you not to since moving overseas can really change relationships (I've been there--trust me, things can change).  You can book all the other stuff, but hold off on asking the WP.  One has no bearing on the other.

Also, don't "officially" ask--just ask!  Turning everything into its own ceremony will get very old very quick.

  • Just remember that your MOH is under no obligation to help you book vendors or venues.  You can certainly ask your friend for her input or assistance, but she's well within her rights to say no, even if she's accepted the role of MOH.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    Help you with what?

MOHs, and the WP in general are not obligated to help with anything unless they offer their assistance. Otherwise, they're just going to stand up there with you as your honored friends. The end.

  • Bablingbrooke , great points! I'll book the venue/cake for now and wait to do the rest after we get back.
  • I said "you know you're the maid of honor, right".

As for the bridesmaids they are my nieces and pretty much assumed they would be in the wedding, which I'm totally cool with so I made a couple of calls to their moms (the girls are tweens) to "officially" ask.
