Usher/ Reader gifts?

Do I need to give gifts to the ushers and readers? If so, ideas please!
Thanks

Re: Usher/ Reader gifts?

  • Probably a good idea, though I don't think they're mandatory.

I'm a fan of Visa giftcards--you can use them anywhere and are a good gift for someone whose preferences you don't know that well.

  • We gave our ushers gifts.

What do your ushers like?  You should shop for all of your wedding party members like it you would shop for them if it was their birthday or Christmas.

  • The Visa giftcards are a great idea...

I am doing some shopping this weekend so I may see if I can find some things while I am out and use the giftcard as a last resort.. I am a fan of more personal gifts, for sure.
  • We gave the readers and the Communion bearers each a $25 gift card to a place we knew they liked (Starbucks, Target, Dunkin Donuts and Barnes & Noble).

We didn't have ushers, but if we did I probably would've gotten them the same thing. Maybe a higher-value gift card if we'd asked them to rent tuxes.

Other ideas could be a book, bottle of wine, box of fancy chocolates, a piece of everyday jewelry, DVD, a nice picture frame.

  • I've read in a few weddings and always been given a gift.  I've gotten Bath and Body Works type stuff and a GC to Starbucks.

  • You should give gifts to anyone who does something in the wedding that is not paid.
