One more gift for my bridesmaids?

Hi everyone,

So, I'm working on gifts for my bridesmaids.  So far - everything I've bought them is connected to the wedding in some way or another:  earrings to wear on the wedding day and special flip flops that match their dresses( to wear at the reception).  I'm also paying for their hair and makeup sessions for the day of the wedding.  Although this is really adding up, see how everything is my-wedding-oriented?  I wanted to get them all one last (little) gift that wasn't related to the wedding - any ideas?  I'd appreciate any input you might have.

Thanks!

  • Yes, but we can't help you with that.  Only you know your friends.  Shop like it's their birthday.  It doesn't have to be big, nor should it be all the same, just something they each would like.

  • Since all of those things are for your wedding, technically none of them are actually gifts for your girls.  So yes, absolutely you should buy them something that's actually for them and not your way of turning them into proper wedding day decor.  As for what that gift should be, they are your friends, you should know better than we would what to buy them.  What would you buy them if it wasn't for your wedding?  You don't have to get them all the same thing.

  • You could pick a category and get something to individually fit each girl's personality... my fiancé and I are planning to get books for all of our attendants, since we like to read. That way everyone gets something personal, but we can shop for them all at the same place (and it's an excuse to go to Barnes and Noble!)

  • Yes, get them each at least one personal item.

But it doesn't need to be pricey. Maybe a book that Jane's been wanting to read, a DVD movie that Sara's been wanting to see, a box of Nora's favorite chocolates, a bottle of Andrea's favorite wine, a Target gift card for Stacy's new apartment, and a couple tickets to Hillary's favorite minor league baseball team. Those things would probably all be in the $30 or less range.

  • Yeah, sorry, none of the stuff you've mentioned is a gift.  Were I in your shoes, I'd probably return the earrings and flip-flops and get them something more along the lines of what you'd get them for Christmas or their birthday.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
