Wedding Party

So how is it in Cincinnati right now?  The Plain Dealer in Cleveland last week had a column about the Ohio sports scene and how Cincinnati and Cleveland seem to have traded fortunes:  Reds are in the penant race and fans are complaining because the Bengals win last week was an ugly one.

The next few weeks should be fun here for me.  I live near Philadelphia and DH grew up in Northern California and is a die hard Giants fan.  In fact, I'm looking at his Giant's pendant flag on the office wall right now.

  • Ha, it's exciting all right.  Most people I've talked to don't have a lot of faith that the Reds are going to get very far, but I'd like to believe in them.  But, I'll be honest--my dad once told me (mostly jokingly) that the "greatest travesty of [his] adult life was producing an offspring that did not enjoy baseball."  As far as football goes--I like to watch the Bengals games, but I missed last week's.  I'm just happy with something that looks like a winning record.

Even if I don't know much about sports (have I mentioned I'm a music teacher? Band nerd?  Drama geek? Smile) I do enjoy living in a city that is finally NOT the butt of everyone's sports jokes.  :-)

I was on Elder's color guard my sophomore, junior and senior years of HS so you have a fellow band nerd here.  Although, it was at the football games that I finally learned football.

My grandfather, who was the Reds batboy until Pearl Harbor, used to take me to Reds games.

A friend of mine in Cleveland was from Youngstown and therefore a Steelers fan.  He'd come into the courthouse every Friday trash talking whatever team the Steelers were playing.  It used to annoy him to no end that I wouldn't respond when he got to the Bengals.  "We're going to kick your asses!!!"  Me: shrug.

  • Color Guard!  That's awesome.  Sitting on the sidelines in band is definitely the only reason I know anything about football, as well.

I'm the same way when people start in on Cincinnati teams to me.  I have a certain amount of Cincinnati pride, just from spending my whole life here, but I'm not one to get fired up about our sports teams.  You can have whatever strong feelings you have, and I'll just ignore you.  (Hmm...unless we're talking about UC basketball under Huggins.  I would get fired up about that) :-)
  • UC Grad - cheered like crazy for West Virginia last year.  If only I'd remembered that John Calipari had beaten Huggs only once in his entire career, I would have come in first place in a March Madness pool.  Had to settle for second place.

I tore into another attorney two years ago when he made the comment that he was sorry for the other orange bowl opponent because they'd be stuck playing UC.  Apparently, I made a good case because every other attorney who heard me tell him off started keeping track of UC football afterwards.
